(La Verne) – Ayala dominated from the opening kickoff, and cruised to a 31-6 win over Bonita Friday night. With the victory, the Bulldogs remained unbeaten and locked up at least a share of the Palomares league title.

The Bulldogs took a 14-0 lead on their first two possessions. On the opening series they marched 92 yards on 12 plays with Jacob Badawi capping it with a four-yard run. After a three and out and a short Bonita punt Ayala was in business again at the Bearcat 37.

five plays later Matt Munoz ran through the Bonita defense for a 19 yard score and with over three minutes left in the first quarter it was 14-0 Ayala.

Early in the second quarter Cole McCain hit Derrick McMillian for an nine-yard touchdowns pass to finish a 53-yard drive.

Bonita’s offense continued to struggle throughout the first half and never moved the ball past mid field.

Ayala was on position to score again at the end of the first half but McCain was stopped on a keeper at the one -yard line as the clock ran out.

After a homecoming celebration at halftime the Bulldogs picked up right where they left off in the third quarter. They needed just three plays to go 68 yards for a 28-0 lead. Gilbert Duran caught a pass in the right flat, broke free and raced 55 yards for the score.

Noah Carlton added a 28-yard field goal at the 5:23 mark of the third for the Ayala’s final points of the night.

Late in the fourth quarter Bonita broke the ice with an eight-yard touchdown strike from Sean Jastrab to Ethan Durham with 10 second left in the contest.

For the Bulldogs Badawi rushed for 81 yards on 15 carries and a touchdown and Munoz had 10 carries for 74 yards and a score. McCain completed 13 of 23 for 203 ayrds and a pair of touchdowns.

Ayala, now 9-0 and 4-0 in the Palomares will face Alta Loam next week in an attempt to run the table. Bonita fell to 7-2 and 2-2 and will play Claremont next week in the regular season finale.

Such a snoozer of a game between the Bulldogs and the Bearcats. I wouldn’t say LS would roll them but Ayala isn’t super impressive. They have a nice defense and some tough running backs with some size on both sides of the line… but a lot of these guys go both ways and you can tell when they get tired. They couldn’t punch it in on the one inch line because the o-line stood straight up thinking the backs would do all the work. However, the coaches do a good job of subbing their players consistently throughout the game. Ayala dominated but they should have been able to score more.

And boy did Bonita look bad… almost like they didn’t want to play at all (and on homecoming of all nights!) So much for Bogan and his magic.

Ayala is a real contender but I wouldn’t count out a lot of teams in D6. It’s wide open as far as I’m concerned.
