[El Monte] Davon Booth had four touchdowns leading the way for El Monte’s 52-0 shutout victory over visiting Gabrielino Friday night.
The Lions started on defense and got a three and out on the Eagles, Booth fumbled the punt was able to pick it up juke a few defenders and took it 70-yards to paydirt.
El Monte’s defense went to work again and this time got a turnover on downs. The Lions’ Abel Cueva had two big first down runs that set up a reverse that Booth took 33-yards to the end zone for a 16-0 lead.
Gabrielino again forced to punt but this time it was blocked by Booth and recovered by Sergio Gonzalez, two plays later quarterback Joseph Herrera called his own number and dove in from two yards out.
Booth found the end zone two more times in the second quarter on a 12-yard run and a 49-yard reception from Herrera giving the Lions a 39-0 halftime lead.
The Lions running game stood strong the second half as JJ Reyes scored on a 12-yard sweep in the third and Marcos Montoya took a pitch 55-yards after a few broken tackles to the house, finishing off the scoring for El Monte.
Booth finished with 133-yards on 11 carries, two receptions for 64 yards. He also took in a two point conversion and kicked two PATs.
Cueva had 61-yards on seven carries, Montoya had 70-yards and a touchdown.
El Monte’s defense gave up 137-total yards in their second straight shutout.
Gabrielino quarterback Christopher Rodriguez finished 8 of 12 for 87-yards and running back Ivan Hector pounded out 44-tough yards on 13-carries.
The Lions (9-0) clinch their second straight Mission Valley League title and will travel to South El Monte on Thursday. Gabrielino (6-3) will look to stay in the playoff hunt as they face Arroyo next Friday.
@farmer john …. Talk when you get a ring Division 12 if you cant get one here it’s never going to happen. Arroyo has one ….Lol
@bacon better to lose in the playoffs then not make it at all …… oink oink 🐷
@Lions don’t choke like last year. People saying EM will win it all. No Sotomayor or Gabby in the playoffs remember that no more soft schedule.
@Bacon MV is going to have to get past Adelanto first so don’t count your eggs before the scramble BACON 🥓
Wait till El Monte starts playing the school from Moreno Valley I see EM semis maybe but no Cif not going to win it all sorry
@mtytwocents. OMG why do people keep finding reasons to whine about. Reyes and Montoya are the #3 and # 4 running backs. They need reps to get ready for playoffs, so your say stop giving them reps because we are up big. No way teams need to play defense
@truth & two cent to avoid your crying just give the your kids a big hug and tell them everything is going to be alright and then ask them if they would rather quit the second half……. I fell so bad for this coddle generation …………what ever happen to son finish what you start and strip it up and play hard and never give up no matter what the outcome is or if you fall get back up and dust your self off and get back in the game………SO SOFT
San Marino dropped 75+ on us last season only reason we got a running clock was because the 4th quarter. Guess what for 8 games straight after that didn’t give up more then 14. It pumped our kids not to get embarrassed again.
Transfers 52 Gabrielino 0
Karma is a mother
When a team wants a running clock it is because they have waved the white flag. Respect it and honor it. One day when you are down, that is not if but when, and you wish you can catch a break. Instead, someone will put their foot on your throat, you are going to remember this day.
My Two Cents, come on I usually agree with you but like Los Altos and other teams you got to get those reps in second half and fourth quarter. EM has like 15 plays the first half a punt return and blocked up was 3 plays two TDs. That’s really no reps on offense. They didn’t run anything special second half worked on stuff and scored twice with their back up running backs. And at LA same thing with Rene he only had a few touches and they wanted a running clock, why can’t he get some in he’s been pulled multiple times early too.
Mission Valley League. But thanks…
@two cent Coach : stop your _itching and Coach your kids up that Coach over at El Monte is one hell of a Coach I’m also going to transfer my kids to El Monte to be coached up you have to bring something to the table and he brings it because kids are coming ! In just 3 years he has turned EM from being a joke program to a MONSTER program don’t listen to the haters COACH just keep doing your THING 1
Both teams just ran so yes it was. And 2 is a backup on offense.
If you don’t like it, play defense! Coach your kids up and you won’t have to cry about a running clock. El Monte don’t need to play the way you want them to play which is soft. Crying about a running clock but Gab still passing and running trick plays! Still couldn’t score…lol
Congratulations !! El Monte on your back to back Mountain View League titles great job coaches all three of you ! WOW ! That’s a Coach I’m transferring my kid there even if he has to sit out 5 weeks … GO LIONS !
The clock was not running the entire 3rd quarter. No. 2, 6, and 20 are not backups. Karma will be a @itch!
Not one offensive starter scored the second half. RHP is doing their thing, I’m sure they’re a lot of people’s pick. It’s not gonna be easy.
Why do teams halve to do what others want them to do. That’s DELETED teams should play how they want. All of a sudden you want RHP to win because of this wow
Wow! Winners focus on winning, losers focus on winners! Get over it! Don’t know if you noticed but the clock was running the whole 3rd quarter. Stop crying and get in the weight room!!! Reyes and Montoya are back ups.
Yea cause all those TDs scored in the second half. Had the ball twice. Calm down guy.
You don’t want to mess with Karma! EM was up 39-0 at the half. Gabrielino wanted to have a running clock starting the 3rd quarter but EM didn’t want to do it because supposedly they wanted to play their backups. The only problem was they kept their starters in the entire 3rd quarter. That’s a pretty classless way to run up the score. EM than told the referees at the end of the 3rd quarter that it was okay to run the clock. Uh, when you are up 52-0 in the 4th quarter, it is mandatory. Don’t pretend you didn’t know that. I don’t see EM beating RHP. In fact, I will predict here and now RHP will beat EM by at least three touchdowns in the CIF-SS D12 championship game.
