Totally agree with the weakness of the Del Rio League hurting La Serna, El Rancho has made positive strides under Coach Medrano and Cal has probably made the biggest noise so far firing there entire offensive staff and hiring someone with a La Serna past to call the offense and coach the offensive line. At least there are two programs trying to compete, what can Santa Fe and Whittier say or do?
My solution would be simple take all the teams in each division in each sport and put them in leagues as geographically sensible as possible. Basically take all Division 13 and put them in Leagues together. So one League in Football might be Alhambra, Temple City, South Pas, Glendale and Rosemead. You create new rivalries and have schools on equal footing. It’s not competitive equity if some of those D13 Schools are in Leagues where they have no shot of even making the playoffs because they are in a League with teams who are 2 or 3 divisions higher.
The Pacifica vs LS game was a true battle between two juggernauts going head to head, matching score for score and we just came up a little short. I sat in the stands with my friend the QB’s father, the game was an emotional rollercoaster and to lose by just one point was extremely hard for the LS family. Our boys played their hearts out and left it all on the field, I am proud of these young men for this incredible season.
WE WILL BE BACK…
@ Jase: The high school football leagues, at least those in the San Gabriel Valley and nearby, should have been comprehensively reconfigured years ago. The current playoff divisions represent a half-measure, in my personal opinion.
I’ve been saying for years now to do the competitive equity for Leagues every 2 years and not the playoffs. If the Leagues are equal they format right into the playoffs.
No 2019 better players hands down.
You can put anyone as the HC at LS and be successful in the Del Rio and CIF. Coach G is an empty headset.
Blaming a pre season schedule in week 14 that had CIF winner Eisenhower, CIF finalist Arcadia, and three playoff teams in D3 Murrieta Mesa, Colony and Montebello. Come on man!
From the looks on streaming video, that Pacifica team looked bigger, faster, and easily more athletic than La Serna, hats off to the Lancers for almost beating them. You would not think that a team from the Del Rio league, could consistently beat or almost beat the upper division teams that La Serna has beaten or almost beaten over the last 7 or 8 years. Ever since the CIF title game that they lost badly to West Covina back in 2011, they have had a hell of a run, What a contrast, two teams that went in opposite directions.
The problem wasn’t the preseason schedule, the problem is their league. Have you seen that gawd-awful league they play in??? Whittier, Cal, etc…they’re a D6 team playing against teams D9 or lower! They may as well be playing in the Montview or something. They need to move to a stronger league.
@ Joey, the 2013 team was better then this team, better athletes and finished the deal!
@Iv’e Won a Couple Rings’s
Yes Pacifica was a great team or was LS they competed till the. Couldn’t ask for a better game. Def held them to 155 rushing yards to a very good RB who was player of the game. Best Defense i’ve seen especially the front line. Preseason was supposed to be tough but turned out not so much. LS was just that much better. They should schedule a Amat or Cathedral no higher may or some other D2’s. Missed opportunities but best team I’ve seen in awhile.
…LS …WIN …LOSE…OR DRAW…THE KINGDOM…
I guess beating Warren, los altos, and San Jacinto doesn’t mean anything. Pacifica should not have been a division 6 team. they have multiple division 1 commits. That is no excuse for losing by 1 point but those boys last night played their ass off. There is a lot of talent at La Serna but even better coaching.
BTW…That gardener comment was disgusting even for the trolls on this website. It is so sad the losers always come out to rip the winners. 13 – 1 is a dream season for most teams….and most likely the teams you are not on.
On that final play 4th and 3 why is LS trying to hit a HR they were running the ball at Will and could have ran for 3 easily.
I would proclaim myself the best OC around if i average 40 points a game. The OC at La Serna has done a great job and you cant take that away from him. Person making the comment sounds very bitter, and sounds like a coach that can’t get a 1st down.
Reasons why La Serna Lost:
1. Pacifica was a pretty good team!
2. Defensively La Serna looked lost at times
3. Pre Season schedule was too soft and did not prepare them for the situation at the end of the game (4th & 3 with 1:03 left on the clock)
4. Special Teams miscues (Both teams had them though)
Immediate fix should be the preseason schedule, schedule up! It doesn’t matter if your preseason record is 4-2, 3-3 or 6-0 but what does matter is that it prepares you for the playoffs! Especially since the Del Rio League at its current status does not help La Serna!
Maverick/My Two Cents/LS/LS Fan/Anon (and what ever other name these guys go by) will be on here shortly to defend.
Sheesh!!! Those kids from LS played their butts off. That’s all that needs to be acknowledged. Unfortunate that someone needs to lose but that’s what it’s played for 48 minutes. Congrats to all!
@Anonymous
You are classless “person” and a typical street-corner punk.
You and your son ain’t DELETED
41 points, 1 bad PAT snap from tying the game…and you place this on the OC?! Anonymous, you even know the game of football? Go crawl under the rock you came out of, dipstick.
Yes LS LOST!! This isn’t Murphy Ranch
Not the last series. 3 and out ? That was the worst 2 min drill play calling I’ve ever seen
Hey George? is your Gardner the special teams coach?
Well I guess the “self proclaimed” best OC around at LS choked again!! time to hang it up little man even if you need ladder for that.
From T. Peterson: Actually the offense looked pretty good.
La Serna just lost its first game of the season, to Pacifica of Oxnard, 42-41. To my mind, there were no losers on the field tonight, even if only one championship plaque will be awarded. They give a runner-up plaque, and for good reason: merely getting to the finals is proof of a team’s worth. Congratulations to BOTH squads on a great season.
OUCH!! There goes all those dreams floating away on a bad snap.
Crescenta Valley Falcons finish the season (maybe, possible state playoff berth coming) undefeated at 14-0. The present group of seniors were undefeated as a Freshman team 4 years ago.
Our defense was strong as always. One of Simi Valleys TDs came on a blocked punt with a scoop and score. We did give up a 68 yard run for a TD with 4 minutes to go in the game.
Congrats to the players(including my son) and coaches.
