1. Former NBA Commissioner David Stern passed away on New Year’s day at the age of 77.

2. Former Cincinnati Bengals head coach Sam Wyche passed away Thursday at the age of 74.

3. Don Larsen, who pitched the only perfect game in World Series history for the New York Yankees in 1956, passed away Wednesday at the age of 90.

4. According to ESPN Jason Garrett will not return as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys.

5. Oregon beat Wisconsin 28-27 Wednesday in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.

6. AP College Basketball Top 5: 1. Gonzaga 2. Duke 3. Kansas 4. Oregon 5. Ohio State.

7. USC wide receiver/ kick returner Velus Jones, who just completed his junior year, has entered the transfer portal.

8. On this day in 1993 the Buffalo Bills rallied from a 32 point deficit to beat the Houston Oilers 41-38 in overtime in the AFC Wild Card game. It was the greatest comeback in NFL history.

9. Arroyo has started off the basketball season 0-8. The Knights open Mission Valley League play next Wednesday against Mt. View.

10. El Monte sophomore Nathan Serrano leads the MVL in scoring averaging 19 points per game. The Lions are 13-4-1 overall and 1-1 in league.

    The Stern family had a deal in place for a casket burial, but word is that Adam Silver has vetoed those plans and ordered a cremation.
