Rodriguez Goes Wild in Cats Win

[Covina] – Noah Rodriguez threw four touchdowns and rushed for another two in Monrovia’s 42-14 victory over Northview Friday night at Covina District Field. 

Rodriguez started early, on the first play of the game he found a wide open Kai Taylor for a 63-yard touchdown. 

After a three and out for the Vikings, Northview picked off Rodriguez’ second pass of the game. 

Rodriguez missed seven straight after his opening touchdown pass. But found Taylor again late in the first quarter on the same play for a 30-yard touchdown and a 13-0 lead. 

Northview answered by driving down the field on the ground with Cheo Medina who scored on a 52-yard run to paydirt to finish the first quarter and make it 13-7.

Midway through the second quarter Rodriguez found Carlos Hernandez for a 59-yard catch and score, before the half Rodriguez took it in himself from 20-yards out to make it 27-7 at the half. 

Both teams played defense in the third quarter only scoring was a bad snap that went in the endzone and caused a safety for the Wildcats giving them a 29-7 lead going into the fourth quarter. 

Rodriguez opened it up early in the fourth with a 20-yard score to Hernandez and a 21-yard run making it 42-7.

With the clock running Vikings sophomore quarterback James Arellanes who split time under center hit on a 60-yard touchdown pass making the final 42-14. 

Rodriguez finished 10 of 24 for 240-yards 4-touchdown passes and interception and eight rushes for 104-yards and two scores. 

Arellanes went 10 of 14 for 117-yards and score. Medina had 86-yards on the ground for Northview

Jeremy Cruz had a interception for Monrovia and Cameron Rufus and Kaden Taylor were all over the field for the Wildcats defense. 

Vikings will try to regroup before they face Covina next week. Monrovia will try to keep it going against San Marino at home

    Right! I was only there for the first half I couldn’t take it. Plus it got cold.

    Great to see Football back in action! A little sense of normalcy was very much welcomed.
    Since there’s no MVL games this year I went to this one. Monrovia definitely looks the part but then again so does Northview. Game was good but man oh man there are some crybabies on that northview fan section…geez! You had moms and dads coaching from the stands kind of embarrassing actually. Any way it’s good to have football back.

    Cheo is such a crybaby on the sidelines you could see from the stands. I don’t know why he isn’t playing defense and getting at least 15 carries. I see where he gets the complaining from because we could hear mama in the stands.

    And to the other guy in the stands that kept telling them to roll out or about their weak side on defense. Bet he’s never coached a day in his life.
