  2. Oklahoma head basketball coach Lon Kruger announced he is retiring. 
  3. The Lakers didn’t make any moves prior to the trade deadline Thursday. 
  4. The Miami Heat acquired guard Victor Oladipo from the Houston Rockets for Avery Bradley and Kelly Olynyk. 
  5. The Arizona Cardinals signed cornerback Malcolm Butler to a one-year deal. 
  6. MLB pitcher Gio Gonzalez retired after 13 seasons.

  8. Former USC/ LA Raiders running back Marcus Allen turns 61 today. 
  9. On this date in 1979 Michigan State beat Indiana State 75-64 in the NCAA Championship game that featured Magic Johnson and Larry Bird. It was the most watched game in the history of college basketball.
