(Covina) – Cheo Medina ran for 202 yards and three touchdowns to lead Northview to a 27-0 shutout of Covina Thursday night at Covina District Field.

The Vikings led just 6-0 at halftime on an 8-yard touchdown run by Medina in the second quarter before blowing it wide open in the third. Both teams missed field goals in the first half and there were three turnovers as well with the Colts coughing it up twice on consecutive possessions in the second quarter on a fumble and an interception.

But Medina got rolling on the Vikes first possession in the third. He rumbled 65 yards for a touchdown on Northview’s  first play of the quarter for a 13-0 lead. On the next possession Northview used eight plays and a couple of penalties to march 65 yards with Medina going the last 20 for the score with 5:14 left in the third to make it 20-0.

On the Vikings next possession they drove 58 yards on six plays. This time Lewis Madrigal joined the party with an 8-yard  TD dash.

Northview quarterback James Arellanes, son of former Northview head coach Jim Arellanes, completed 5 passes for 44 yards.

The Colts had trouble finding a groove against the Viking defense. Quarterback James Duronslet threw for 81 yards and rushed for 34. The longest play from scrimmage for Covina was a 29-yard pass from Duronslet to Nathaniel Castro.
