Garcia Too Much for Cowboys

Tonight’s game was dedicated to long time Chino equipment manager Alex Arellano who passed away in August.

[Chino] – Conquistadors running back Gary Garcia scored all of Don Lugo’s touchdowns in their 20-14 victory over the Cowboys Friday night at Chino. 

Chino got the ball first and drove down the field but gave the ball to Lugo on a fumble. 

The Conquistadors took advantage on their second play as they threw a double pass and wide receiver Dylan Young found running back Garcia wide open for a 72-yard scramble to the endzone. 

The Cowboys again drove down the field and fumbled on the three yard line. 

Garcia got his second touchdown of the game on a two-yard run making it 14-0 Conquistadors. 

Chino finally got on the board with a five yard touchdown run from Joseph DeJulia with 47-seconds left in the half. 

Lugo tried to get on the board again before halftime but a Joshua Cortinas pass was picked off by Daniel Nakashima and taken 72-yards for what looked like a touchdown, a block in the back brought it back. Score stood 14-7 at the half. 

Cowboys tied it up midway through the third quarter with another short touchdown run by DeJulia.

Score stood that way till Garcia found paydirt for the third time on a one yard run, extra point was missed Conquistadors were up 20-14.

Chino drove the ball down field a dropped pass in the endzone on third down from the seven yard line and a reverse that was sniffed out by the Lugo defense ended the game. 

Garcia finished with 160-yards rushing on 26 carries and two receptions for 84-yards to go with his three scores for Don Lugo.

DeJulia had 27-carries for 159-yards and two touchdowns. 

Don Lugo (1-0) will play Claremont next week at home. Chino (0-2) will stay home and play Covina.
