Steven Escarcega went five innings to pick up the win for Monrovia

(Monrovia) – We interrupt the football season to bring you some baseball. Actually baseball season is on schedule but with football being moved to spring everything is coming back at once.

Monrovia scored four runs in the first inning to offset a three run first by Burroughs and went on to beat the Indians 7-4 Saturday in the Dave Moore Tournament at Monrovia High.

Dominic Teneriello had a single and a sacrifice fly while driving in two runs for the Wildcats in the win.

Steven Escarcega started for Monrovia and went five innings and allowed four runs but only one run was earned. He struck out 11 and walked four while giving up just two hits.

Burroughs starter Gunnar Nichols threw the first two innings and suffered the loss.

Monrovia improved to 3-0 with the victory while for Burroughs it was the opening game as the Indians are 0-1.

    What’s the rule on kids playing more than one sport at the same time? If they can work it out with the coaches/schedules, are they allowed to do both, or do they have to choose?
