By Rich Whittington

(Glendale) – Quarterback Ivan Ostry celebrated yet another big night Friday evening, as the visiting La Canada Spartans bested the host Glendale Nitros, 40-19, in front of a small, but vocal crowd at Glendale’s Moyse Stadium.

Ostry did what Ostry does best…run. He rushed for 266 yards, including scoring runs of 13, 43, 69, and 75 yards. Additionally, he was on the receiving end of the Spartans lone scoring pass; a 29 yard toss from QB Macky Plocher. Finally, Ostry converted two 2-Point PAT rushing attempts, and tossed for a third. In short, Ostry had a part in
scoring 36 of the 40 points that La Canada scored in the contest.

Glendale, by contrast, chose to get more players involved in their scoring efforts. QB Juan Estrada led the way for the Nitros, completing 15 passes for 129 yards, including a 3-yard scoring pass to WR Dino Villalobos. Also getting into the scoring column were Kierson Florita, who scored on a 32-yard TD run, and Agustin Alonzo, who found the end zone for a 5-yard rushing score. Glendale’s final point was provided by Jonathan Anaya, who successfully converted a PAT attempt.

The game also provided its share of defensive highlights. Glendale led the way in this area, logging the games lone take away. This occurred when CB Kierson Floriya forced a fumble that was recovered by DB Dino Villalobos. The Nitros also recorded two quarterback sacks…one by the aforementioned Villalobos, the other by LB Isaac Leiva.

Glendale’s next game is on 4/9/21, when the Nitros will host the Gabrielino Eagles. La Canada’s next contest, also scheduled for 4/9/21, is a home affair, where the Spartans will play the San Marino Titans. Both kickoffs for both games is scheduled for 7:00p.m.

I’ve said it before when I posted to those in game attendance at any school Ostry decides to play for, when he’s on the field at any capacity,” Get your Camera’s ready and don’t blink”, too many times teams think they got him contained or gang tackled and the kid comes out of the pile up headed towards the end zone. Outstanding Athlete with great field vision…Jus Say’n
