It’s Official: Sergio Villasenor Steps Down at Sierra Vista

By Tim Peterson

(Baldwin Park) – As expected Sergio Villasenor has stepped down at Sierra Vista Friday as Co Head Football Coach after two years. His son Matt Villasenor, who also served as Co Head Coach stepped down Tuesday.

Sergio Villasenor told Fred Robledo of SGVN Sports that his son’s resignation was upon the recommendation of school and district officials who objected to Matt Villasenor’s postings on social media. So with that Sergio Villasenor decided to pull the plug as well.

He indicated to Robledo that he told Sierra Vista officials that his decision came down to family and Matt was his son, and if they don’t want Matt then they can’t have him.

Matt Villasenor said Tuesday that it was likely that his dad would step down. “He will let admin know of his decision on Friday,” he said.

Rumors now abound as to where Matt or both father and son will end up. Matt has indicated that he still wants to coach. Santa Fe, with Dave Pierson resigning this week, is a possibility.

Stay tuned.

@peterson it should be called both ways Baldwin park is talking to, the district should worry about other things, the kids are going to school you got college coaches coming to the school you don’t know who it’s inspiring to go to school

@peterson if the district was so worried about tweets last year Baldwin park was going at with Sierra vista.
From T. Peterson: Yeah I get it but that’s the information I was given.

So other schools and district officials aren’t opposed to the social media posts by Matt? What was the issue with his posts?
From T. Peterson: Apparently they didn’t like the back and forth between him and Baldwin Park High School. They thought some of his tweets could be perceived as shots at BP and they didn’t like it.

With this site seemingly on life support for the duration of COVID and the 2020 election, it’s nice to see a spike of comments on these ‘step down’ posts. Nothing makes the blood flow better than a good firing, so it’s an excellent way to revive the mud-slinging our natures crave. The so-called season many of us were not allowed to attend was a snooze, but this issue of who’s wanted where is the real deal
From T. Peterson: Things were slow during COVID so obviously we weren’t posting much because there was nothing to post. But as far as being on life support, financially or otherwise, we never were. We own the site and don’t owe anybody. We also don’t work for anybody so we can post or not post whatever we want. As long as there are some type of sports going on we’ll be around. We’ll never fold. There’s no reason to. That being said it’s great to see football and now all other high school sports coming back.

We need a coach that can compete with our new league. We would love you at Los Altos. 1-4 doesn’t cut it. That 2-8 in a real season, but we can’t play Wilson twice.

This act is kinda like the porn star that hopes a career on You Tube can be parlayed into a big budget film role skipping years of on the job learning. Good luck. It happens.
