Game Night: Week Two

Carlos Hernandez and the Wildcats host Los Altos.

All kickoffs are at 7:00 p.m. unless otherwise indicated

Thursday September 2

Diamond Bar (0-2) at Covina (0-1) (Covina District Field)

Both teams are coming off big losses. In fact Diamond Bar is coming off two. However the Colts did face a tough opponent in Glendora. They should have enough to win here.

Covina 21 Diamond Bar 13

Friday September 3

Arroyo (1-0) at Schurr (1-1)

Arroyo looked good in all facets in a win over Ganesha. Yes I know it was Ganesha but the Knights did what they needed to do. Schurr bounced back from a loss to Cal with a big win over South Torrance. Good close game is in the offing. Arroyo wins it in the fourth.

Arroyo 31 Schurr 28

Charter Oak (2-0) at Glendora (2-0) (Citrus College)

Nice local matchup here. Both teams are 2-0 and both are playing efficient football in the first two weeks. Charter Oak started slow last week against Northview but once the offense got rolling the Chargers pulled away. Interesting stat: Charter Oak has scored 62 points in the first two games while Glendora has scored 64. Offenses are even but look for the defense to make a big play. Chargers win close.

Charter Oak 30 Glendora 27

Los Altos (1-1) at Monrovia (2-0)

Carlos Hernandez, Noah Rodriguez, Jaylen Moore, Josh Barron…the list of talent goes on and on for Monrovia. Los Altos, coming off a 35-0 loss to Ayala is going to have its work cut out against the Wildcats. The Conquerors will compete but if Monrovia gets a couple of scores early it could be a long night for LA. Monrovia wins its third straight.

Monrovia 38 Los Altos 14

Paraclete (1-1) at Pasadena (1-1)

Maybe the best game on the docket. Pasadena is proving it’s for real and we already know Paraclete is. The Bulldogs got their first win last week in a rout of El Camino Real while the Spirits fell to Garces (Bakersfield). When I looked at the Pasadena non-league death march before the season started I had them going 3-2. This is their second loss. Paraclete gets it done.

Paraclete 34 Pasadena 27

South El Monte (1-0) at Montebello (0-2) (Thursday)

The Eagles had the week off last week due to COVID-19 protocols while Montebello is coming off a 49-17 loss to San Dimas. The Oilers defense needs to tighten up. They have allowed 90 points in two games. The Eagles can score too having lit up Alhambra for 42 in Zero Week but the Moors defense has also been less than stout. Expect a lot of points with the Oilers scoring more.

Montebello 35 South El Monte 31

Northview (1-1) at South Hills (0-2) (Covina District Field)

Northview stayed with Charter Oak for a half after beating up on La Puente in Zero Week. South Hills is off to a rocky start. The Huskies are 0-2 and were routed last week by Etiwanda 42-6. The Vikings will need more of a complete game effort to get it done here. They have enough to get their second win.

Northview 28 South Hills 14

Sierra Vista (0-1) at El Rancho (2-0)

El Rancho has been on a roll outscoring its first two opponents 77-0. Sierra Vista was shut out 40-0 in Zero Week by Arroyo Valley and last week had to cancel due to COVID-19 protocols. El Rancho wins its third straight. It will be over by halftime.

El Rancho 42 Sierra Vista 7

St. Paul (2-0) at Cathedral (1-0)

UPDATE: Game canceled due to COVID-19 protocols.

we cant control how good a team will be when we play,
Don Lugo was “supposed to be solid” when we made the agreement
Bell Gardens was contender for Almont title
Sierra vista – they won us last year, but now that Villasenors are gone… well .

when we scheduled all 3 teams when they had diff head coaches.

but it is what it is… we are going to keep doing the same… going for 3rd burger 🙂

@Truth: If this site had archives you would be shocked. ER fans are MVS’s old school folks. Back in the day all schools had a big fan bases on here that dwarfed ER’s. From Santa Fe and La Serna to Upland, Norco, Paraclete, Bonita, San Dimas, Monrovia with their Green posters it was nuts and fun. Literally hundreds of posts on any football take from Joe and Tim. And if you really wanted to be annoyed they had a 2 hour video show on Friday night breaking down the games. OMG. So if we make you nuts now then be happy you were not around back then.

St. Paul had to schedule easy run-down teams to have a chance at playoffs. Once they play the big guys in league they might win 1 maybe. 1-3 in league

Relax, they have a supportive fan base and a pretty solid program with a solid coaching staff, if you don’t like coverage of any specific team move on and ignore it.

How El Ranch got /began getting coverage on the mid is confusing. I have never heard a more annoying, paranoid group of fans before. Please, all you ER people get some lives and let the kids play. Stop trying to relive your sorry youth through them. It’s sad.

Rumor is the ER school district is making it harder for people to go to Fridays game. They will blame Covid but that is not true. Pico Rivera admins have always been jealous of the Pico Rivera communities love for the Dons and dislike of the politics. The community voted 4 years ago for a bond to build a new stadium. Still no stadium and money down the drain. Have not even dug one shovel full. Where’s the do-re mi? If you follow ER politics I’m guessing it is either the teachers union, ER Unified superintendent,PR city council, or ER school board limiting attendance. None have ever given any visible support. All have been jealous at one time or another of the only thing that works at El Rancho, it’s football team.

Tim has always given the ranch good coverage on here, not sure how down SV is after the villasenors left, may not have been a worthwhile game to even post on here. Would be nice to see another shutout.

Peterson has always been fair in the past of his coverage of ER football. Thank you for that Tim. And as for any “love” for ER we have not earned anymore that reporting the score though a few photos of our opening day crowd would have been nice. I hear the ER side of the field was SRO. Now if we lose to Sierra Vista at home on Friday that would be worthy of a few lines. Go Dons.
