San Gabriel Hosts Four Way Toss

(San Gabriel) – There’s nothing like a good game of catch. San Gabriel welcomed Los Altos, Bosco Tech and Flintridge Prep Tuesday afternoon to throw the ball around. The Matadors will be hosting passing leagues every Tuesday and Thursday through out the summer.

San Gabriel has three quarterbacks on the depth chart in Andy Guerrero, Eric Alvarez and Eddie Escandon. Tuesday Guerrero and Alvarez were getting in most of the work slowly emerging as the top candidates for the starting position.

Guerrero and Alvarez were both effective Tuesday hitting most of their spots as they alternated sets.

“They’ve both been throwing pretty well,” said San Gabriel Coach Jude Oliva. “They both just keep moving up.”

Arthur Brown picked off a pass on defense and will be a big part of the SG offense as well as he plays on both sides of the ball. Brown will line up as a linebacker in the Mats D.

Los Altos QB Shave Vernala is in competition with David Poyet

Matador to keep an eye on: OL/DL Carlos Purser. He’s only a junior.  

At Los Altos Shane Vernala and David Poyet are locked in a battle at quarterback. Vernala was getting the reps as the Conquerors lined up against Bosco Tech and San Gabriel. Poyet, a senior could have the inside track but Vernala has been coming on.  

Scott Tibbs will anchor the running game.

Los Altos has been throwing the ball frequently as well going usually every Tuesday and Thursday.

The Conquerors schedule will be a challenge. LA has El Rancho, Bellflower, Wilson and Ayala before kicking off Hacienda league play October 1 at Rowland.

Bosco Tech will face Gladstone in week three before beginning Del Rey action at La Salle on October 1. Flintridge Prep will go up

Keep an eye on San Gabriel's DL/OL Carlos Purser

against Rio Hondo Prep among others in the Prep League.
