  1. The Lakers traded Russell Westbrook to the Utah Jazz in a three-team deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Lakers acquired D’Angelo Russell from Minnesota and Malik Beasley and Jarred Vanderbilt from Utah. The Lakers also gave up a 2027 first-round draft pick. 
  2. In a separate deal the Lakers dealt center Thomas Bryant to the Denver Nuggets for Davon Reed and three second round picks. The Lakers will replace Bryant with Mo Bamba who they acquired from the Orlando Magic for Patrick Beverley. 
  3. The Phoenix Suns acquired Kevin Durant from the Brooklyn Nets for Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and four unprotected future first-round picks. 
  4. A signed Kobe Bryant jersey from his MVP season of 2007-’08 sold for $5,849,700 with Sotheby’s. 
  5. The Clippers acquired Denver point guard Bones Hyland and Houston Rockets shooting guard Eric Gordon in separate deals. They also picked up Mason Plumlee from the Charlotte Hornets in another trade. The Clippers gave up two second round picks, Luke Kennard, John Wall and Reggie Jackson overall. 
  6. The New York Giants Brian Daboll was named NFL Coach of the Year. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was named MVP.  
  7. Michael Irvin was dropped as an NFL Network analyst for the Super Bowl after a woman issued a complaint about his conduct during a hotel encounter in Glendale, Arizona. 
  8. San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is set to have elbow surgery February 22.   
  9. Andrew Lachelt, who was the quarterback coach, has been promoted to head football coach at Ontario Christian. 
  10. CIF approved girls flag football as a fall sport that will begin next school year, 2023-’24.
