Sierra Vista Season Ends in Second Round

(Baldwin Park) – Sierra Vista cut a 14-point deficit down to four in the third quarter but ultimately came up short in a 77-63 loss to Pacifica Christian Friday night in the second round of the CIF Division 4A Basketball playoffs.

The Dons were down 45-31 but they made a big push in the third quarter outscoring Pacifica Christian 21-11. Hector Lopez scored 8 points in the third and Aaron Buna hit a pair of threes for 6. By the time the third quarter buzzer sounded Sierra Vista was down only four at 56-52.

The Seawolves came right back in the fourth quarter however as they outscored the Dons by the same 21-11 count for the 14-point victory. Elliot Colin-Fenderson hit 5 of 6 free throws in the final frame and Jeremiah Wilson had 7 big points in the fourth to help seal the deal.

The Dons were down 19-11 at the end of the first quarter as Camron Swist and JJ Martin got Pacifica Chistian off and running with 7 points each in the opening frame. Wilson scored 8 for the Seawolves in the second quarter including a pair of threes and Colin-Fenderson had 8 as Pacifica Christian extended its lead to 14.

Kimboon Aseh had 8 points in the quarter mostly on drives to the hoop as he tried to keep the Dons in the hunt. William Pacis also nailed two threes in the second quarter.

Sierra Vista made the run in the third but couldn’t keep pace in the fourth.

For the Dons Lopez led the team with 21 points and Aseh finished with 16. Pacis added 11.

Swist led the way for Pacifica Christian with 22, Colin-Fenderson had 20 and Martin and Wison each scored 15 as the Seawolves had 4 players in double figures.

While Pacifica advances to the third round Sierra Vista finishes its season with an overall record of 22-8.
