"It's the most wonderful time of the year!!!"--- Check out the smile on Covina trenchman Carlos Lira

T-Minus-27 Days until “The Mid Valley Classic”

Good Evening!

Don’t be shocked if South El Monte quarterback Henry Mascorro shocks a few teams this fall…Just saying…

Question: Why were the sprinklers on at Bassett today? Do you have to water synthetic turf?

Note to Loyal Fanview Reader MannsJeff: I took it down, but I need to let you know that Village Christian is part of the Mid-Valley Division and that is why I posted the Aboul-hosn highlight video yesterday…

If you want to know about The Village’s quarterback Kyle Custer, I’m happy to talk about him as well.

While Covina HC Darryl Thomas described Friday afternoon as Christmas, it was his players who opened all the gifts. Helmet, pads, gear…Santa Claus never left stuff so good…

The folks at El Monte had the same attitude…The only thing missing were the fans in the stands…

Someone dropped me a brief line asking if I knew what was up with former Arcadia tailback Audarrius Bailey… Had to say I didn’t know, but if somebody does please tell me…Bailey was amazing to watch…

Probably the best place for Jonathan Niedenfuer Broxton would be Siberia or the Mexicali League where the currently unemployed Landestoy Luke is seeking work.

I know, I know, its all Casey Blake’s fault…and George Bush issued those three walks…Broxton was just a bystander…Zola Budd probably had a foot in the mess too…

I guess this comes from being a mediocre athlete, but I’d rather get cut—like I did from the Mt. Sac baseball team—than retire as did San Francisco 49er second year running back Glen Coffee. After getting solid playing time a year ago the third round pick from Alabama in 2009 is looking for other work.

This may not be the case all the time (I know it isn’t)…but sometimes its better to be asked to leave the party than to just leave on your own. You know what I mean? If I had ever seen the smallest of opportunities in the NFL I would have hung on like grim death…

In the… “Life Sucks Department”…New England has lost defensive end Ty Warren for the whole season with a hip injury.

Mid Valley Sports has just signed an agreement with HBO to be the focus of “Hard Knocks” next summer… Can’t wait to send The Turk out and have them tell Ouellette: “Joe wants to see you, bring your coupons and playbook…”

Reminder to staff & friends: It is Mid Valley News or Mid Valley Sports…without the hyphen…sans dash… It is Mid-Valley Division…with hyphen/with dash…when referring to the football conference.

Back to NewRam Comment about DNA… If your coach doesn’t do it, then the boosters should, or the local beat writers…but every school needs a historian…every school needs somebody to say this is who we were, this is where we’ve been, and this is how we got there…

History and the coincidence drive me…They really do…I believe it was in 2006 when I dug information out on Schurr’s 2006 and 1980 CIF championship teams…Besides the obvious father-son connection of Joey & Rudy Jordan…The Spartans in 1980 scored the exact same number of points the 2006 team did in the regular season…

This kind of information won’t put a roof over your head, change a market surge, or blast any sort of warm fuzzy to folks living in Toledo…but you know what? It means something to the folks who live in Montebello, who send their sons to Schurr to play football…

Every school needs somebody, like a New Ram, to harvest the DNA to pull it out and put it on display…Its your history…and as we cover the area, in a larger sense, it is our history.

Last Add Schurr: Chris Chiaromonte!

In lighter news: The Mid’s Big George Hernandez says he will take a punch in the face from one of his least favorite sportswriters if Mt. View fails to win five games this season.

Not that you care…but I’m turning my garage into an office/man cave…taking suggestions for which team colors to use…I’m partial to orange and blue myself…

“Football Rush Week” is coming…August 23-27.

Stay thirsty my friends…
