Morales Promoted to Head Coach at La Puente

By Tim Peterson

(La Puente) – Erick Morales, who was the co-offensive coordinator last year at La Puente was promoted to head football coach of the Warriors Tuesday.

Morales takes over for Laron Johnson who resigned earlier this year to take the head coach position at Burroughs. La Puente went 8-3 overall last year and lost in the first round of the CIF Division 14 playoffs to Bell Gardens.

Get names on that roster, bodies in the weight room, and hopefully retain to those numbers from Spring to the completion of Fall. I don’t bemoan the more advanced locals that go off to Amat or LA or the like, but hopefully none of that funny business that was happening in the mid-2000s when there was shuttling to the likes of Servite et al. Finding greener pastures to represent the SGV is one thing, but leaving to the OC or SFV is completely something else.

Nice to see a new young coach. Hope there’s a wave of young, professional HS football coaches coming through soon. It’s been a while since guys like Perez, Medrano, and Ziola started up.
