Pearson Steps Down at Warren

Kevin Pearson has stepped down as the head football coach at Warren after four seasons.

By Tim Peterson

(Downey) – Kevin Pearson has stepped down as the head football coach at Warren he confirmed Sunday.

Pearson cited the need to spend more time with his son as the primary reason for his resignation. His son will be a freshman at South Pasadena High School in the fall.

“My son is about to start high school and I’ve basically given him nothing of me in the summer and the fall. I wasn’t even able to take him to practice or games after May,” Pearson said.

Warren had an overall record of 32-6 (3-3 in the playoffs) under Pearson in his four years at the helm. The Bears won the league title all four years and made the playoffs every year during Pearson’s tenure except the shortened season COVID year when there were no playoffs.

Last year Warren went 11-3 overall and advanced to the CIF Division 3 Championship game where the Bears lost to St. Bonaventure.

Pearson may try to stay on at Warren in a limited capacity. “I’m trying to work something out to where Warren can allow me to stay connected in a limited role – kind of like a consultant,” Pearson said.

Warren will begin the search for a new head coach immediately.

    @Pseudonym,

    City Section is made up of LA Unifed School district schools. This is why a private school would not be a part of it. LA Unified does have Charter schools that pull from
    out of area, however, which is why you see schools like Granada and Birmingham have success.

    March is kind of late notice. As an aside (going down the comments), how is Cathedral–and even Inglewood/Morningside et al.–not in the City Section? Cathedral is part of the parochial setup (Damien-like litigiousness?), so I guess there’s something there I’m quite understanding, but the public schools sort of (upon my ignorance) really makes these lines between SS and CS kind of questionable, for me at least.

    Coach Williams must have stolen your girlfriend in high school. 2 CIF championships, 4 championship appearances, multiple NFL starters, guys playing at the highest level in the NCAA in the upcoming season, nationally ranked qb and over a decade of young men educated and equipped to contribute positively to the world. I doubt he cares what you think about his resume but men give credit where credit is due.

    The man is bailing because the pipeline of stout recruits has dried up. Coach is unable to face the prospect of a crappy season. Family situation is the standard excuse.

    Being oc is time consuming it’s like he can just show up on Friday night and call plays he needs to review tape, scout and game plan. The consultant role makes sense doesn’t have to be there day to day just as needed especially if Warren hires someone currently on staff

    Not sure how this impacts Kevin’s future in auto commercials, but I’d like to assure the man that there will always be room for him in the booth or on the sidelines as an Arroyo “helper.”

    Maybe he got tired of seeing his players making millions while he gets a free bag of peanuts.
