  1. The Lakers beat the New Orleans Pelicans 110-106 in the play-in game Tuesday night and will now face the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the NBA playoffs. 
  2. Former St. Louis Cardinals manager/ Hall of Famer Whitey Herzog has passed away at the age of 92. 
  3. Happy Birthday to former Lakers/ UCLA great and Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar who turned 77 yesterday April 16. 
  4. The Indiana Fever selected Iowa’s Caitlin Clark with the first pick in the WNBA draft Monday night. 
  5. Blake Griffin, who was the number one overall pick of the Clippers in 2009, has announced his retirement from the NBA after 14 years. 
  6. The executor of O.J. Simpson’s estate, Malcolm LaVergne, has now reversed his stance and says that Fred Goldman’s (Ron Goldman’s father) claim will be accepted and will be handled in accordance with Nevada law. 
  7. Former Brooklyn Dodger great Carl Erskine, the last of the “Boys of Summer” who pitched two no-hitters for Brooklyn and was a mainstay of the staff, passed away Tuesday at the age of 97.  
  8. Will Bissman has stepped down as the head basketball coach at Covina.   
  9. Former Cantwell/ Los Altos head football coach Travis Brown has joined the staff at Diamond Ranch and will coach the quarterbacks. 
  10. The Keppel Tournament and the Rumble at the Ranch Tournament at El Rancho are the same day- Saturday June 8.

    I imagine that Nevada law is vague enough to allow OJ’s estate a big, fat loophole by which to evade paying anything to anybody except Malcolm LaVergne. You’ve gotta love the American injustice system.

    Attendance at the ER and Keppel events will tell us just how many are actually willing to walk the walk of supporting a derelict football program’s attempted promotion. My bet is that the Rumble will out-draw the Crumble at Keppel by at least three to one.

    #6 Wow. A lawyer that “says” he will follow the law. I guess the threat of sanctions was enough to sway him him back to reality.
