Game Night: CIF Playoffs – 1st Round

Mayfair and Daniel Torrez host Trabuco Hills in Division 5 Friday night.

All kickoffs are at 7:00 p.m. unless otherwise indicated:

Thursday November 7

DIV 11

Bell Gardens (7-2) at El Rancho (6-4) (California)

The two teams played back in August and El Rancho rolled. Not that much of a difference now. Dons get the W.

El Rancho 28 Bell Gardens 17

Friday November 8

DIV 2

Downey (9-1) at Serra (7-3)

Downey looked great Friday night in a big win over Mayfair. But Serra is a whole different animal. Serra comes out on top.

Serra 35 Downey 21

DIV 3

Bonita (10-0) at Cathedral (9-1)

Cathedral won the Angelus. Quarterback Jaden Jefferson and the Phantoms are a talented bunch. But Bonita isn’t just good, the Bearcats are special. Bonita advances.

DIV 4

Apple Valley (6-3) at Charter Oak (9-1)

Charter Oak struggled against a physical team like Bonita. Apple Valley is good and physical but the Sun Devils are not Bonita. The Chargers get the victory.

Northview (10-0) at Long Beach Poly (5-5)

Should Northview be at home? Yes. 10-0 Apparently doesn’t get you what it used to. The Vikings use it for motivation, strap it up and grab a victory.

Northview 28 Long Beach Poly 24

DIV 6

Schurr (9-1) at Muir (8-2)

Great year for Schurr but can they match up with the speed and athletic ability that Muir brings? The Mustangs are dropping 70 on people. Muir wins.

Muir 35 Schurr 17

Aliso Niguel (7-3) at San Dimas (8-2)

When San Dimas pounds the ball they are successful. Expect a whole lot of that Friday night. Saints advance.

San Dimas 27 Aliso Niguel 24

DIV 9

Burbank (8-2) at Monrovia (8-2)

Expect a high scoring affair. Monrovia has had trouble stopping the run and Burbank ran for over 2000 yards this season. Bulldogs run into the second round.

Burbank 35 Monrovia 28

So proud of our Lancers today. They showed up and left it all on the field.
Just wished they could have pulled it off. Best of luck to El Rancho.

On another topic, these Whittier district stadiums are really nice.

I know it’s a bit out of the area, but hey, that PiusX – Cypress showdown really has it all: it’s 1-9 versus 2-8 for a few of the marbles. I’m expecting quadruple overtime to decide this barnstinker. It’s CIF’s game of the WEAK.

CO is actually 8-2. Loses to Bonita and Yorba Linda.
Scary how sloppy CO can play at times. You never know which team will show up. Maybe now in the playoffs they’ll get 11 guys on the field for each play and quit with the critical penalties.
    Let’s go CHARGERS!!

Muir beats Schurr by 30. Schurr has no one that can block Muir’s dline. Schurr runs the ball. Muir has a top tier run defense.

Downey is definitely more of a high division three team than lower division two team. The match-up with Serra is unlucky. However, you still need to outscore Downey, which no one has done in CA yet. I don’t think Serra has the firepower.

    Serra – 35

Funny the only true mismatches now are in D13–14 …… the bottom teams are so bad that there is big disparity . Luck into top seed at low level and walk through early rounds

Really mind bending that we reward the also rans , enjoy the festivities!
