(Covina)- Coming out of the locker room with a sledge hammer, the Covina Colts lived up to their metaphor and hammered the Gladstone Gladiators 33-0 Thursday night at Covina District Field.
The Gladiators began with a 40-yard kick return by Andres Uribe. It turned out to be the best play from Gladstone. After Uribe rushed for 5-yards on first down, the offense went three and out. This became a common occurrence throughout the game.

After a bobbled snap on a punt turned the ball over on downs the Gladiators were greeted by the Colts rushing attack.

On first down, sophomore running back Gevontray Ainsworth ran up the middle for 12-yards. It was followed by an 11-yard rush by wide receiver Michael Hennes on a Jet Sweep. Quarterback Billy Livingston closed the drive with a 2-yard touchdown run.

Ainsworth continued to be a force in the next series with a 20-yard run, which set him up for a 1-yard score with 2:41 left in the first quarter. He later added another 2-yard touchdown in the second.

In the second half, Covina went to its passing attack. After Livingston connected with junior wide receiver Vinny Venegas with passes of 22 and 9-yards, Livingston found Andrew Carrillo open in the end zone for a 1-yard score to bring their lead to 27-0, and killing all hope from the Gladstone sideline.

Covina ended its next two drives with 27 and 34-yard field goals by Randy Robledo.

“Overall I think be played well,” said Covina Head Coach Darryl Thomas. “But we have things we need to clean up.”

The Colts are now 2-0.
