(La Canada) – Lance Mitchell has been named the new head football coach at St. Francis the school announced Wednesday.

Mitchell, who has spent the last four years as the head coach at Muir, his alma mater, led the Mustangs to an overall record of 9-2 last year and a Pacific League title. Muir fell to Charter Oak in the first round of the CIF Division 4 playoffs.

Muir compiled an overall record of 36-16 during Mitchell’s four-year run including 8-4 in the playoffs and won three Pacific League titles. The Mustangs won a CIF Division 10 title in 2022 and after winning a regional state playoff game, advanced to the State Finals before falling to Hughson 9-6.

Congrats to Lance. He’s a great coach for kids and deserves this chance, imo. I’m hoping it works out.

After Lance & SF, the whole top league of the Rio Hondo & Pacific League conference should be pumped. This is a big win for Burbank, La Cañada & Monrovia who were gonna get blasted by Muir every year. They all should be thrilled.

That’s a crazy resource. Never heard about it! Great for Lance and his family.

Maxie pulling in ~$10k at BP. Would be crazy if someone pulled the comp of all the walk on coaches to see who is the best get for your money! Maxie gotta be up there!

Probably some way overpaid folks too!

Where can you find the compensation for public schools?
From T. Peterson. We don’t want to post the link here but you can try googling Transparent California.

Public schools must disclose their compensation annually. In his best year at Muir, Lance got $60k. Makes it real easy to make the move to a school like SF. The bottom of their range was DOUBLE what Lance got in his best year. No-brainer move. Anyone talking trash about it is delusional. They’d make the same move if they were as good as Lance and his staff.

Mitchell has already accomplished a very important thing: he has given himself a raise from the puny stipend he was getting at Muir. I’m certain Lance was hesitant to leave his Alma Mater, since he’s comfortable and successful with the ‘Stangs. But when he heard the dollar amount St Franks wanted to lay on him, his first reaction was probably: “I’ll practice whatever religion you want me to, so long as the checks are good.”

For now, with a clean 0-0 record, all is rosy, with the above introductory letter practically naming Mitchell as one of the Lord’s apostles. Lose enough games and the termination letter will be a bit more terse.
