- Former LA Kings coach and Hall of Fame player Bob Pulford passed away at the age of 89. Pulford won four Stanley Cup titles as a player with the Toronto Maple Leafs and played the last two years of his career for the Kings. He then coached the Kings for five seasons. Pulford moved on to the Chicago Black Hawks where he spent three decades as general manager and senior vice president of hockey operations. While with the team from 1977-2007 he also went behind the bench to coach the Blackhawks on four different occasions.
The only job more volatile than high school football coaching is pro football. For the most part , no matter how great you are 5-7 years is most to be expected : the administrative/ business structure changes , the voice becomes repetitive , etc There’s only so many Coach K or John Wooden careers . Lombardi went to the Redskins ; Cowboy fans cried for Tom Landry to be fired . Steeler fans wanted Tomlin gone a few weeks ago lol..
Harbaugh lasting 18 years is an amazing career accomplishment. At this point , it was either him or Lamar due to their playoff ineptitude and tensions that have surfaced . The organization pushed their remaining chips to Lamar and we will see what happens; as a long time Browns fan , hiring Harbaugh would be a dream come true
It is my belief that Pete Carroll knew the Raiders were unfixable, but he took the job anyway to give himself a very nice retirement package. His contract was for three years at a reported $45 million. With his tossing, he’s owed $30 million for not coaching. So the man gave his rah-rah routine on the sidelines, uttered some nonsense about culture-building, and is walking away with full pockets.
