Walnut Names Goyeneche Head Football Coach

(Walnut) – Walnut named Joseph “Joe” Goyeneche as its new head football coach the school confirmed Sunday.

Goyeneche most recently coached at St. Bonaventure where he led them to the CIF SoCal Regional championship in 2023 and an appearance in the CIF State Bowl Game Division 1 championship. He had an over record of 41-15 at St. Bonaventure.

Goyeneche takes over for Eric Peralta who stepped down in May. The Mustangs went 4-6 overall last year (0-5 in the Hacienda League) and missed the playoffs.

    He wanted a teaching job at walnut it pays well I think

    Hmmm..very interesting stuff here for a mid -June hire .

    He was a St Bonaventure lifer -building program, getting HC opportunity and taking them to the top. He abruptly resigns in May 2025, and goes to area rival Bishop Diego as a coordinator. These are solid D3-5 type programs.
    Now he goes 100 miles southeast and takes job at D12 type public school….in June
    He seems like great coach , his St Bonaventure teams were the real deal, but the puzzle doesn’t easily fit together .
