With the season officially kicking off on August 14 here is our first official Top 12. Yes, we go with 12. Keep in mind this could change on a weekly basis but here’s what we got to get it started.
1. Damien – Malachi McFarland is back to lead the running attack.
2. Bishop Amat – Quarterback Dylan D’Epifanio (cool name) can air it out.
3. Downey – Receiver Damani Porras is always open.
4. Bonita – Running back Joseph Lara is gearing up for a big year.
5. Charter Oak – Quarterback Dutch Burbidge leads a potent offense.
6. Muir – How good is transfer quarterback Kaiden Agbunag?
7. La Serna – The Lancers and Grady Long have been impressive on the passing circuit.
8. Baldwin Park – Lequand “Jack Jack” Jackson is ready to sling it. Braves open with La Serna.
9. Rio Hondo Prep – The Kares don’t rebuild, they reload. Keen an eye on Christian Lee.
10. St. Paul – First year head coach Austin Montoya has talent to work with.
11. Northview – Zeke Lucero and Jeremiah Alcantara are monsters on the Vikings’ front line.
12. Los Altos – Quarterback Luke Rodriguez looks legit.

To clarify, I am saying that RHP deserves to be rated higher than #9, and that St Paul doesn’t deserve to be on this list at all. Yes, St Paul’s new young coach is the epitome of the American ‘can do’ spirit, but Mike Moschetti wasn’t exactly chopped liver, and he wasn’t able to wring anything great out of this dying program, so there is little cause for exuberance.
Baldwin Park worked over Rio Hondo Prep pretty good at the scrimmage yesterday. Baldwin Park will probably have several transfers having to sit out but in some ways that’s good. They’ll be wearing to go once league play starts.
RHP is rated far too low on this list, while St. Paul is vastly overrated. These are the most glaring errors on this inaugural ranking. The feeling here is that Tim will be quick to bump RHP into a more suitable spot, while he will be reluctant to admit that St Paul has entered an era of substantial decline.

No way RHP should be that low. 3 consecutive CIF titles, the last 2 in a higher division than the previous year must earn them some benefit of the doubt. They may not get transfers but they do recruit and they’ve gotten good at getting the right players for their system. They should be top 3 until proven otherwise on the field.
If, as Tim says, those Northview linemen are really serious about “paving the road”, I can direct them to several miles of potholed, badly patched streets in my neighborhood. In return, I’ll gift each of them an 8 x 10 glossy of yours truly cracking the whip to hasten their efforts.
