1. Michigan beat Western Michigan 13-12 Saturday on a Hail Mary pass from Bryce Underwood to JJ Buchanan for a 47-yard touchdown as time ran out. The play came after it appeared that time had expired on a previous Hail Mary pass from Underwood that sailed out of the back of the end zone. But after a review Big Ten replay officials put one second back on the clock allowing the game winning play.
2. UCLA beat Cal 45-24 Saturday night to kick off the 2026 season.
3. Azusa Pacific returned to the football field for the first time since 2019 Saturday night in the 2026 season opener at La Verne College. The Cougars fell to La Verne 30-3.
4. Washington beat Washington State 24-10 in the Apple Cup Sunday in the season opener for both teams.
5. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell agreed to a four-year extension the league announced Sunday. Financial terms were not released.
6. LSU, which was ranked number 11 in the AP Preseason Poll, beat Clemson 51-10 Saturday.
7. Pete Crow-Armstrong hit his 40th home run of the season in Chicago’s 10-3 loss to the Miami Marlins Sunday. Crow-Armstrong became the first Cubs player to hit 40 homers since Derek Lee in 2005.
8. Former Boston Red Sox manager Joe Morgan passed away Saturday at the age of 95. Morgan took over for John McNamara at the All-Star break in 1988 and led the Red Sox to wins in 19 of his first 20 games. The Red Sox went on to win the AL East and reach the AL Championship series.
9. The New York Giants signed backup quarterback Jameis Winston to a two-year extension worth $13 million.
10. The Rams expect to receiver Puka Nacua and left tackle Alaric Jackson to play in the season opener Thursday against the San Francisco 49ers in Australia. Both players have cases under review by the NFL for ongoing legal situations.
