Joe Torosian

Good Afternoon!

From El Monte HC Joel Sanchez: “Mikey Jimenez back in the lineup tonight look for some big numbers from him.”

“I’m starting Andy Guerrero this week,” says San Gabriel HC Jude Oliva.

“Eric Alvarez is fine,” says Oliva. “I thought I would shake things up and try to get our offense back on track. Andy gave us such a huge spark off the bench I got to give him a shot. Eric will be available and ready to play.”

The Matadors play Contreras Friday night.

“He’s at about 98 percent,” says Norwalk HC Jesse Ceniceros about Elijhaa Penny. “He had a hell of a game for us on both sides of the ball against St. Paul.”

The Lancers are still down a Vasquez brother …(Sal)…

Because this might have been his last round up after 12 seasons, I have to say New England Patriot running back Kevin Faulk has always been one of my favorite players…He’s gone for the year with a ripped up knee.

Just for fun…What if the final four of the Mid-Valley Division consisted of Monrovia, San Dimas, Whittier Christian, and… Mt. View?

Not a prediction, but what if View got zapped by some lightening and did something amazing? If you were around at the time then you might remember how everyone came out of the woodwork for San Gabriel in 2003.

It was stunning…I’m curious if something similar happened at View everybody and their brother would be wearing their purple and gold. You might even get a local sportswriter (while in the process of digging out every piece of history) saying something like: “Oh, I’ve always been a Vikings fan!”

Obviously we can’t reveal a rooting interest…but everyone has one…but if a team like Mt. View, Sierra Vista, heck even South Pasadena made a dent come playoff time…The valley would be turned on its head.

Not possible? Perhaps, but then again how many of you thought at the beginning of the 2008 season Azusa’s overall record would be 23-4…That it would have picked up its first playoff win since 1976 and reached the semifinals a year ago?

By the way…Have I mentioned?…I have always been an Aztecs fan!

Did you know that when San Marino broke into varsity football in 1955…and they really broke in going 13-0 and winning the CIF title over Paso Robles…they played at Rosemead High School?

Last Add San Marino: They were CIF champs again in 1957 and finalists in 1958.

Titans One More Time: Bad Dude in the making? Linebacker Ryan Hill. The junior outside linebacker is very athletic and has impressed his coaches.

The name of the Rosemead player Villathedevil was searching for on Tuesday night was Steve San Miguel.

Speaking of the Panthers we don’t mention Matt Eddy enough.

Note to Stadium Public Address Announcers: I doubt if I’m the only one tonight who will taping/tivo-ing/DVR-ing tonight’s Miami at Pittsburgh game…So while I’m hoofing the sidelines this evening can you refrain from giving me score updates? I want to enjoy the game when I get home…

If my pledge to the reader is to never let a Mid writer use expressions like “Reaching into his bag of tricks” or “The Eagles/Falcons get grounded” then can I get the announcers to make a pledge and promise never to say: “Hold it folks! There is some laundry on the field!”

***

El Monte should get emotionally healthy against Gladstone tonight…Reminder the contest is being played at San Dimas High School.

***

Thinking in terms of All Mid-Valley Division? Create a spot for Arroyo cornerback Mike Amaya. Playing well.

***

Nice to see the Padres could come to town and have a healing experience against the Dodgers…Now they are feeling fit and back in first place in the National League West.

***

Crescenta Valley at La Canada has to be one of the more interesting games this weekend. Both teams have new quarterbacks and both are looking for traction. For the Falcons the Pacific could be wide open and for the Spartans they may not want to settle for second place in the Rio Hondo.

I have to admit I have a soft spot for a quarterback who wears number 42 like LC triggerman Scott Gray does.

Stay thirsty my friends…
