High School Quarterback: Vol.6

Now football is officially over at every level.

Well to be completely honest, it is never over! The games may be over but we still have the scouting combine and the endless weeks of breaking down film and trying to predict the make up of our favorite teams next season.

For a high school football player there really isn’t an offseason though, especially in the age of the new association rule.

For the seniors it’s the task of “trying to figure out where to go to school,” according to Whittier Christian’s Stephen Anderson. It is also the reflection of your final season. “The end of the season was kind of bittersweet cause we lost, but Monrovia was very good and I was glad to just make it that far.”

In his final two seasons Anderson threw for a combined 4,900 yards 45 touchdowns and a .612 completion percentage, as well as a Mid Valley Division finals appearance.

For the players coming back it’s about working to become those reliable and explosive players we see every Friday night in the fall.

When it comes to quarterback off season workouts it is best to use the buddy system. Such is the case with Alhambra’s Josh Mendoza “I have thrown with my receivers. One of my receivers Oscar Gayton has been running routes with me during this whole offseason.”

Speaking of the buddy system, Aaron Rodgers had huge trust in his receivers has the drop passes did not stop him from slinging the ball in Super Bowl XLV. He demonstrated great poise throughout the game leading the Pack to their fourth Super Bowl title.

I’m not one to brag about predictions, but when one pans out as well as this one I have no choice but to say “I TOLD YOU SO!” Big Ben is not the type of quarterback everyone had envisioned. I looked past the physical make up and athletic ability. I saw the lack of time he has put in to be technically sound that lead to his missing timed throws and inability to read the coverage within the pocket.

The Mid Valley Draft is a day away and the office is sure to be in a frenzy. This year’s draft has several quality QBs that will sure to make a splash next season such as Henry Omana, Billy Livingston, Myles Carr, and Andrew Elfers. Any one of those named will add instant success to your team.

Be sure to tune in to the Mid Valley Draft February 8th at 7 P.M.
