El Monte (8-3, MVL #2) at Paraclete (10-1, Alpha #1) – Antelope Valley Collge
El Monte has had a memorable year. Brandon Martinez has made a case for player of the year. But anytime you have to drive up the 14 to Lancaster in November you’re going to have problems. Paraclete hasn’t lost since August. Don’t expect them to start losing now. After beating Sierra Canyon two weeks ago the Spirits are on a championship mission. Spirit in the sky!

San Marino (10-1, Rio Hondo #2) at San Dimas (10-1, Valle Vista #1)
Last Year: First Round Mid-Valley Division Playoffs: San Dimas 31-21
This is maybe the best matchup in the valley. Both teams went 10-1 and both teams lost to Monrovia. San Dimas has the talent to run over people but San Marino just may have the talent to stop the Saints. San Dimas gave up 35 points to Monrovia and the Wildcats had four touchdowns called back. The Titans were a score away from surprising Monrovia losing only 21-16. San Marino wants to try to control the ball and keep the score low. San Dimas has the edge in a shootout. Home field and an abundance of weapons should be enough. Saints prevail.

Sierra Canyon (10-1, Alpha #2) at Arroyo (7-4, MVL #3)
While Arroyo was surprising Bell Gardens on the road with an offensive explosion, Sierra Canyon was holding off a gallant effort from Northview. Two weeks ago I would have said Sierra Canyon in a rout. Now it looks like the Knights have a shot. However they can’t abandon the running game. They need to pound Peter Aholoka and pound him some more. The Trailblazers are going to do the same with Xavier Menifield but if the Knights can get an early strike it could throw them off their game. Arroyo has a punchers chance but Sierra Canyon will ultimately deliver the kncokout blow.

South El Monte (7-4, MVL #1) at Monrovia (9-2, Rio Hondo #1)
Last Meeting: 11/20/2009: First Round Mid-Valley Division Playoffs: Monrovia 40-7
The consensus is if South El Monte quarterback Levi Wells plays the Eagles lose by three touchdowns. If he’s out, they lose by four. Sounds about right to me. Monrovia is just too much. Forget Ayala, South Hills and even a close call with San Marino, this is Monrovia’s time of year. Do you realize the Wildcats have gone 12-1 in the postseason in the last four years? The Eagles won’t back down. They never do. But eventually they’ll get kncoked down by the green tide. M-Town rolls to semis.
