2013 Mid-Valley Player of The Year: Monrovia’s Kurt Scoby

Is it possible people don't know how good Kurt Scoby was this season?

Is it possible people don’t know how good Kurt Scoby was this season?

The bummer when it comes to Kurt Scoby is everybody (all of us) have spent far too much time talking about where he played, where he’s going to play, and if he will play on Saturdays next fall.

Good questions, but they ignore the fact this young man scored 40 touchdowns in 2013. He rushed for 2,206 yards on 164 carries. Do you know what that means? That means he averaged 13 yards every time he carried the ball.

If Scoby was a victim of anything this past season it was the Rio Hondo League. Monrovia rolled to another perfect 5-0 record, they also outscored opponents 293 to 21, and Scoby, the most dangerous man with the ball in the division, had a mere 38 carries.

He did make those carries count by scoring 16 touchdowns.

His highest number of carries in a game? 23, against San Dimas.

He caught six passes and four of those went for touchdowns, and returned a kick-off to paydirt.

An amazing talent and we wish him nothing but the best going forward.
