(El Monte) – Rosemead took a four-score lead, Mt. View rallied to get close but it wasn’t enough as the Panthers emerged with a 64-42 victory at Mt. View in the Mission Valley League opener.
Mountain View got the ball first but was stuffed.
The Panthers then drove the ball down field and Dylan Moreno cashed in when he slipped Vikings defenders to a 30-yard score.
Rosemead got the ball right back when Jacob Wang picked off a Juan Villareal pass.
The Vikings answered on the next play as Everardo Nunez intercepted a Matias Pineda pass.
Mountain View capitalized and scored on a Villareal pass to Herson Gasca making it 7-6 after a missed extra point.
Mead scored quick when Pineda took it in himself from six-yards out in under two minutes.
The score was 14-6 at the end of the first quarter.
Rosemead took over on a Vikings turnover on a bad snap on a punt attempt but the Panthers couldn’t take advantage and turned the ball over on downs.
Mountain View forced another turnover when Bryan Garcia had an interception but the Vikes were not able to capitalize and were forced to punt.
The Vikings got another turnover on the next possession with a fumble recovery and they tied it up at 14-14 with a Ricky Guerrero 22-yard run and two-point conversion.
Panthers grabbed the lead right back and then some in the next three minutes. Pineda ran a 15-yard keeper into the endzone for a 21-14 lead.
Mountain View’s Guerrero then fumbled and Julian Lugo recovered for Rosemead. That led to a 26-yard Pineda to Wang TD connect making it 27-14.
The Vikings then muffed the following kickoff return and score when Pineda found Wang again and it was 34-14.
Villareal then scored for the Vikings as he broke off a 59-yard run to paydirt.
But 30 seconds later Pineda connected with David Estrada to make it 42-21 Panthers at the half.
Rosemead added onto its lead just 30 seconds into the second half when Pineda found Lugo this time for a 46-yard catch and run. Estrada put in the two-point conversion making it 50-21.
Guerrero found the endzone again for the Vikings making it 50-28.
The Panthers turned the ball over on downs but Mountain View gave the ball back when Wang corralled his second interception of the game.
Rosemead took advantage of the short field on the turnover and Estrada hit the endzone this time on the ground.
The Vikings scored twice with a run by Nunez and a pass from Villareal to Guerrero and they also forced a punt making it 56-42 midway through the fourth quarter.
After each team turned it over on downs the Panthers scored on an Estrada run and still went for two late in the game up by 20 and converted making it 64-42.
View ended any chance of another score when Villareal was picked off by Lugo to seal the game for Rosemead.
Pineda, Estrada and Wang were lethal all night for the Panthers.
Villareal, Guerrero, Nunez and Samuel Machuca were bright spots for the Vikings.
Rosemead now goes home to face undefeated South El Monte next week while Mountain View will stay home and face Gabrielino which hasn’t won a game this year.
You all make it seem like to the game was secondary to
the noise in the stands . Given the participants, quite understandable…
HahHa yeah we all know that shortie dude. His kid almost came to Arroyo thankfully the vikes gotta deal with him
We all know know who he is, He does the same thing at EM Jets games. He’s a Know it all loud mouth uncle of a very good Viking player. I don’t blame you for only lasting 20 minutes. It’s gets old really fast.
Results only make one wonder how weak are the teams that MV rolled ; now it looks like El Monte v Rosemead will determine third place and playoff spot …wow MVL????
[Rosemead 64 Mtn. View 42]
“Mtn. View close but no cigar.” It was sad to see Mtn. View’s HC losing control on the sideline and almost thrown out the game. Referee flagged him while the game was tied 14-14, seems like his team’s air left the building after that. Rosemead took advantage of the situation and scored 3-4 TDs right after. The game was over by then. Mtn View did its best to fight back but they had no answer in their secondary and no pass rush, Rosemead’s new transfer QB had all day to throw. Mtn. View has a fight in them but if the proper in game adjustments are not made, they will come up short every time. Refs got involved all night and it became a one-sided game. Rosemead is beatable. Arroyo and South El Monte are too much for them.
I was at the game for 20 minutes and I couldn’t the two fans that wouldn’t shut up in the mv stands. The program is going in the right directions and you’re up their trying to coach I seen your kid he’s doing his thing at mv but he would be playing JV as a senior at the school he came from. So just shut your mouth up there and run your jets team how you want.
