Here’s our Top 12 heading into Thursday night’s games. There are no changes from the Dirty Dozen that we posted on July 17 but it’s just a reminder of how the teams stack up with the 2024 campaign about to kick off.
- Warren -Quarterback Madden Iamaleava follows in brother Nico’s footsteps as the next great Warren QB.
- Damien – Linebacker Caden Arellano anchors a solid defense.
- La Serna – Kaimana Tufaga ready to bust out.
- Bishop Amat – Viva Villalbazo!
- Downey – Quarterback Oscar Rios, class of ’26, getting offers already.
- St. Francis – Dual threat John Sanders threw for over 2,000 yards last year and ran for 778.
- Charter Oak – Four Division 1 commitments heading into the season.
- Mayfair – Quarterback Jeremiah Calvin is gearing up for a big year.
- St. Paul – The Swordsmen will be tested right out of the gate with Newport Harbor, Bishop Amat and Damien.
- Bonita – Noah Mikhail is one of the best players in the area.
- Colony – Returning running back Elijah Ybanez rushed for 1,050 yards last year. Titans have a solid offensive line.
- Northview – Keanu Tauvao leads a solid running attack.
If this “dirty dozen” is anywhere near accurate, and I believe it is, this week’s Damien at La Serna contest will be tremendous. It’s number two versus number 3, with La Serna actually having to use their starters throughout. The good news is that if the Lancers sustain any injuries in their preseason testers, they’ll always have those four weeks of virtual R & R, also known as the Del Rio league campaign.
