Hagerty Resigns at Bishop Amat

By Tim Peterson (La Puente)- Steve Hagerty has resigned as the head football coach at Bishop Amat after 17 years he announced Friday. Hagerty released a statement that said in part that “It was simply time for new leadership. I no longer believe that I am the guy to lead this program.”

A Clean Victory for Chargers, 27-17

By Tim Peterson (Inglewood) – The Chargers took control in the third quarter and went on to beat Tennessee 27-17 Sunday before 68,796 fans at SoFi Stadium. The Chargers played a clean game with zero turnovers in the contest and won their third straight game in the process.

Charter Oak Clocked by Apple Valley

By Tim Peterson (Covina) – Apple Valley ran for 322 yards and five touchdowns in a 35-6 rout of Charter Oak Friday night in the first round of the CIF Division 4 playoffs.

South Pas Advances to CIF Second Round, 35-28

Downey Outlasts Mayfair to Win Gateway

By Tim Peterson (Downey) – Downey quarterback Oscar Rios scored on a 7-yard run with 3:56 left in the fourth quarter to give the Vikings an 11-point lead that turned out to be enough to hold off Mayfair 49-44 Friday night at Allen Layne Stadium. With the victory Downey claimed the Gateway League title.

South Captures MVL Crown

By Rich Whittington (El Monte) – The South El Monte Eagles claimed the Mission Valley League Title in perfect fashion Friday evening, defeating the host Arroyo Knights, 35-14, at Arroyo’s own B.L. Bergstrom Stadium.

Chargers Do Enough to Beat Saints

By Tim Peterson (Inglewood) – The Chargers trailed 2-0 at the end of the first quarter and only scored nine points in the first half but ultimately pulled away late in the game to beat New Orleans 26-8 Sunday before 70,240 fans at SoFi Stadium.
