2. San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan wanted to make clear he was at fault for the car accident that left him with serious injuries two weeks ago. It was erroneously reported that a 21-year-old woman was at fault.

3. Cleveland Browns Pro-Bowl cornerback Denzel Ward signed a two-year, $62.2 million extension with the team.

4. Mia Bieniemy, the wife of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, was allegedly shot by the couple’s son Sunday night at the family’s home in Virginia. Elijah Bieniemy, 27, was arrested and charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony and discharge of a firearm inside of a dwelling. Mia Bieniemy is in stable condition in a local hospital.

5. Las Vegas Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak said that Kirk Cousins will be the starting quarterback over first overall pick Fernando Mendoza to open training camp.

6. Former All-Pro receiver Wes Welker will join the Washington Commanders staff as tight ends coach.

7. Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal is scheduled to start Wednesday against the Baltimore Orioles. With the August 3 trade deadline approaching it was believed the Tigers would rest Skubal to avoid a possible injury heading into the deadline.

8. Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert announced his engagement to singer-songwriter Madison Beer.

9. On this day in 1996 Tommy Lasorda retired as Dodgers manager after 20 years. Lasorda had a record of 1599-1439 with four National League Pennants, and two World Series championships.

10. Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott turns 33 today.
