Muir’s Moreno Transfers to Maranatha

Muir quarterback Arthur Moreno, shown here at a the SGV Shootout at Arroyo in June, has transferred to Maranatha

By Tim Peterson

(Pasadena) – Muir quarterback Arthur Moreno has transferred to Maranatha multiple sources confirmed Wednesday.

Moreno, a backup last season, was set to be the starter this year and has been taking the snaps as the number one quarterback in spring and summer practices.

The transfer comes after Kaiden Agbunag, a highly touted quarterback from McClintock High School in Arizona, transferred to Muir last week. Agbunag is now the projected starter heading into the season which begins next month.

IF a coach/program has to pay a kid to play for them, they SUCK as teachers and leaders. Coach what is in front of you.

    @ Muir Alum,
It makes sense this new kid wouldn’t be all in since there is a pretty good chance he’s being paid by a clown show of a coaching staff to come play for them. Albeit, it isn’t confirmed he has been paid but I wouldn’t be shocked if a situation like Bishop Montgomery or Narbonne happens with Muir this year where it is confirmed he and potentially some other players were paid.

Moreno is a high character kid, from all indications from AZ this new kid is not. This will bite Muir in the DELETED, Moreno was all in at Muir. This new kid may not last a season. I first saw him as a freshman dropping dimes for St Francis.

    He sure didn’t.

Kid from AZ was coming down for the last month maybe longer. Moreno should have went to Northview I think they’re a solid QB away from a real good team.

Chased the dream and got burned and may never start a game … could have stayed at home all 4 years and played a bunch of football.

Maranatha has returning senior quarterback Cooper Berry a very good quarterback. Plus a young up-and-comer to back him up. Unless Barry has transferred out Moreno has a slim to none chance of starting at Maranatha. If he shows up at Maranatha maybe Barry transfers out to Whittier Christian and the Merry-Go-Round continues. Whatever happens these transfers spoil the chemistry of teams. It not only bothers the player that it directly affects but indirectly affects all the players that looked to him as their quarterback as Moreno has taken all the snaps this summer. I am sure that there are a lot more of these situations that have gone on but this one hit the papers.
From T. Peterson: Cooper Berry transferred to Cathedral in March.

I’m sure Peterson and the rest will claim this is a yawner, that Moreno had some family obligation lined up months ago, but even a corpse could figure out that the mercenary acquisition of Agbunag caused this exit. Hey, there’s nothing wrong with acknowledging a bit of hanky-panky, even as committed by the morally upright Matty V.
From T. Peterson: Did you read the story? I never said that Moreno didn’t transfer out because Agbunag transferred in. I wrote in the story “The transfer comes after Kaiden Agbunag, a highly touted quarterback from McClintock High School in Arizona, transferred to Muir last week.” That’s obviously why he transferred. I’m glad you were able to figure that out all by yourself. Brilliant deduction. As far as a competition though, there was no time for one. Agbunag came in and Moreno was out. He bolted.

So much for Matt’s comment about a quarterback competition when Az transfer was announced . That’s the level of insight, transparency and validity that we’ve come to expect!

The whole situation is sad and out of control . Moreno started his career at St Francis , has been paying dues at Muir . Now he has to transfer or will be benchwarmer his entire career . Maranatha is lower division school / Ficklin is new coach , not known as Shanahan type offensive mind . I guess it all works out in this game of musical chairs.

Anyone even consider that maybe Moreno had decided to transfer out before the Arizona kid transferred in?

Can’t even blame the kid. When your own coach basically betrays you by potentially buying a kid from AZ and maybe becoming the next Bishop Montgomery or Narbonne, why would you want to stay for that and not be able to play?

Back when I was in high school, the CIF transfer rules were really tight. If you didn’t have a t crossed or an i dotted on the paperwork , your team had to forfeit a season. Now it’s become a joke with guys switching every week.

The kid had no choice, when his coach is actively out trying to buy players from all over the place why would you stick around for that.
