Hart Attack Too Much For Knights

Jim Singiser has that lonely look against Hart on Friday night.

(El Monte)-The Arroyo Knights, unable to contain the Hart Indian offense,  fell Friday night 44-3 at Bergstrom Stadium.

“We came into the game saying we couldn’t have any mistakes,” Arroyo head coach Jim Singiser explained. “We had to play perfect football to have a shot.”

Several turnovers cost the Knights throughout the game who were unable to get anything started behind back up quarterback Eddie Frederico.

“You don’t become a starting quarterback in a week,” Singiser said of Frederico. “It was a tall order regardless who you play.”

Both teams started the game with turnovers as the host’s lost a fumble and the visiting Indians were stopped short on a fourth and inches.

Hart scored 17 unanswered points in the first quarter behind big plays by Justyn Eddins and quarterback Cory Mayes who found Kevin King down the sideline for 70-yard strike.

The Arroyo offense was never able to get into a rhythm as they played most of the game on its side of the fifty. The only time they were able to get on the Hart side of the field was when Andre Kerkhoff intercepted a pass deep in Indian territory. The interception led to a 21-yard field goal by kicker Cesar Barva.

Mayes found Anthony Arriaran for another 70-yard passing touchdown to put his team up 24-3 at half.

The tune would not change for the Knights as they saw Hart score on three consecutive drives in the third quarter which closed down the show.

Hart is now 3-1, while the loss was Arroyo’s first to make them 3-1.

“Not saying anything bad about our league,” said Singiser. “But we’re not going to see another team as tough as these guys.”
