(Temple City) – Arcadia throttled Temple City in the Brawl for the Mall, winning 42-14 Friday night at North Field. Quarterback Myles Carr accounted for four touchdowns, two passing and two on the ground totaling 198 all-purpose yards. A balanced running attack from six Apaches contributed 181-yards on 41 plays gassing the Rams’ defense.

Carr put up the first points of the game breaking three tackles en route to paydirt opening the scoring with 9:22 in the second quarter.

On its second drive, Temple City rushed the ball 13 straight times, milking the clock for 6:29, driving 79-yards capped off by Joshua Simangunsong’s 15-yard scamper.

On Arcadia’s ensuing drive from its own 33, Carr threw a short pass to receiver David Maldonado and he went to work on his way to a 67-yard score and the Apaches never looked back.

The Rams played poorly against the more physical Arcadia lines on both sides of the ball. By the end of the third quarter Rams’ players were standing straight up getting beat on every play by a physical defense that wasn’t mailing it in.

“We’ve got a stout defensive line…but all the credit goes to [head] coach [Jon] Dimalante, he puts together a great game plan week in and week out,” linebacker coach Randy Backus said. Backus spent several seasons on the Rams sideline most recently serving as head coach 2008.

“I didn’t know which way to go at the gate but there are a lot of people at Temple City that I love and I respect. It’s hard, but you know, there’s a lot of a kids over there that I would coach in a heartbeat,” Backus said.

Last year the Brawl ended in a 28-28 tie that left a sour taste in the mouths of fans, this year the turf goes to Arcadia.

Next week Temple City (0-3) tries to earn its horns on the road against South El Monte and Arcadia (1-2) at Pasadena.
