High School Football Top 20: Mid-Valley Division

Left to right: Rudy Robles, Stephen Anderson and George Flynn of top ranked Whittier Christian

Whittier Christian remained on top – hey a win is a win. San Dimas did what it was supposed to against Nogales while Monrovia’s win over South Hills was a huge confidence booster. Azusa? What else do the Aztecs have to do? Schurr’s Cantu and company withstood Cal while Arroyo had no problem with Bye. Here’s a question for the week? How good is Maranatha?

1. Whittier Christian (5-0): Salesian no push over; Robles loves the jumbo package.

2. San Dimas (3-2): Nogales? No problem.

3. Monrovia (2-2): Maddox’ gamble secures big win over South Hills.

4. Azusa (4-0): No, La Puente wasn’t a test. Is anybody in Montview?

5. Covina (4-1): Colts survive Northview scare.

6. Arroyo (3-1): Bye allows Rivera to heal. La Canada is next.

7. Schurr (2-2): Abraham Gonzalez runs, catches, leaps over Cal in a single bound.

8. Wilson (3-1): When does the Wilson faithful cheer up?

9. Village Christian (4-1): It takes a Village to score 123 points in two games.

10. Maranatha (4-1): Minutemen roll La Canada for fourth straight win.

11. Bell Gardens (2-2): Lancers run all over San Marino.

12. Baldwin Park (1-4): Braves rout of Pomona gets Braves back in mix.

13. Pomona (3-2): Red Devils get a taste of the Valle Vista in BP.

14. La Canada (2-2): Spartans defense needs a few stops.

15. Alhambra (3-2): Moors knock South Pas from the ranks of the unbeaten.

16. South Pasadena (3-1): Tigers have work cut out this week vs. Cathedral.

17. San Gabriel (2-3): Turnovers, Guerrero propel Mats over ‘Mead.

18. Rosemead (2-2): Panthers order a truck load of stickum.

19. Sierra Vista (4-0): Dons get first against Azusa.

20. La Puente (2-2): Warriors will try to right ship vs. Workman.

Number of teams represented in each league: Valle Vista 5, Rio Hondo 3, Olympic 3, MVL 2, Montview 3, Almont 4

Notes: Baldwin Park jumped back into the Top 20 and up to 13 with a huge win over Pomona. San Marino dropped out with its second straight loss. Sierra Vista (19) is undefeated but the combined record of the Dons four opponents is 3-13.
