Knights Drain "The Swamp"

(South El Monte) Arroyo’s Mikey Vazquez and Anthony Miller scored three touchdowns each to lead the Knights to a 42-0 win over South El Monte, Friday night at “The Swamp”.

The Eagles kicked the ball off first and went for an onside kick and recovered it, but South quarterback Henry Mascorro threw to the wrong color and Alexis Aceves came up with an interception. On the first play of Arroyo Vazquez took it from 38-yards for the score to make it 7-0.

South El Monte couldn’t get anything going again on offense and Arroyo got the ball on downs. The Knights pounded the ball down field and Miller capped it off with a 3-yard touchdown run to give Arroyo a 14-0 lead midway through the first quarter.

The Eagles stood strong with the Knights but with 56-seconds left in the second quarter, Arroyo quarterback Steven Rivera threw a 44-yard touchdown pass to Miller to make it 21-0. The Knights weren’t done only twelve seconds later after a Fernando Ochoa interception Miller scored again this time on a 35-yard touchdown grab and made it 28-0 before at the half.

In the third quarter Vazquez went back to work with touchdown runs of 26 and 16-yards to finish the scoring for the Knights and put  Arroyo up 42-0. Vazquez finished with 162 –yards and 3-touchdowns.

Rivera had a Rivera type night finishing 13 of 14 for 203-yards and 2-touchdown passes. Miller had eight catches for 156-yards and his two scores receiving and one on the ground. On defense Sam Torres had three sacks. Mike Amaya and Joe Velasco each had a pick for the Knights.

Mascorro and Anthony Jimenez finished 10 of 28 for 54-yards and four interceptions. Billy Valencia and Frankie Venagas each had a sack for South.

Arroyo continues there push for another Mission Valley League title next week against Rosemead, while the Eagles travel to View and try to keep their sixteen game win streak alive against the Vikings.
