Joe Torosian

Good Evening!

I hate fantasy football…on the other hand, I am so glad the Rams made the right decision and drafted Sam Bradford…Can you believe there were people who wanted them to take Ndamukong Suh?

Some people just don’t know football…

Since it seems Diamond Ranch is a hot topic around The Mid, my question for Roddy Layton would be; Who is going to get the yards between the tackles with Chase Price out?

I appreciate the lightening, but they are gonna need some thunder…

***

Not to call an election or selection before the voting is done…but isn’t the Southeast playoff picture pretty much set as to who is in and who is out?

There is still a third place spot technically up for grabs in the Del Rio between El Rancho and Pioneer…but the Dons the are taking that. The Pacific and Suburban are set…and in the Hacienda all that is left for debate is Rowland and Walnut…Bonita, WestCo, and D-Ranch are all in.

In the Mid-Valley? Much more fluid.

Rosemead and Arroyo is big this week, but neither team will be in serious danger of missing the playoffs with a loss.

Did you know that Matt Koffler has only won once at Bergstrom Stadium as Mead’s HC? In 2008 they blasted the Knights with a 50-point bomb, but they lost there in 2006, 2004, and 2000 under Koffler.

Prior to 2008 the last time a Panthers football team won at Bergstrom was October 19, 1990. John Vigil ran for 81 yards and a touchdown, Mead rushed for 210 yards overall behind Pat Ahhing, and beat Arroyo 21-14.

The quarterback was Matt Koffler.

Did I hear right? Did the cheerleaders get into a fight at the Mountain View-El Monte game Friday night?

***

My question for the Temple City faithful is: Did you count the 2002 forfeit by Arroyo in your total of 400? If you did, I guess it works but the victory was taken away from the Knights because of a clerical error on the administrations part. The player in question never even reached the field…

25 Years Ago Tonight

Muir’s Ricky Ervins ran for 225 yards and four touchdowns in the Mustangs 42-22 victory over Arcadia…to kill the Apaches homecoming celebration.

At Monrovia, Blair defeated the Wildcats 21-0 thanks to three touchdown passes from quarterback Kenny Williams…At Mead, Frank Martinez completed a two-point pass to Frank Espinoza in the fourth quarter to give the Panthers an 8-7 victory over El Monte. John Bush had scored on a 2-yard run to draw Rosemead to within a point…Finally, at San Marino, Phil Bradway went 73-yards to paydirt on the game’s first play as the Titans defeated Temple City 24-12.

***

I really like Covina…but I’m not sure I’m ready to pick against Baldwin Park. Although C-Town is a big play team and if they squeeze out a couple of quick scores the Braves could be in trouble.

See Friday morning for my prediction…(yeah, I’m aware it’s a Thursday game.)

***

La Serna on the other hand is going to work Santa Fe…

***

Last Add Jack Del Rio: Down on The Ranch; Daniel Moriel is having a terrific season.

***

Did the NHL season start?

***

Based on the arguments on the board…this must be the “Year of the Back” in the Mission Valley League…

Note to Long Time Readers: Sorry…(to those who have contacted me about our growth hurting the MVL and RHL teams)…We honor our past with the Old School coverage…but we couldn’t stay in that little world. Either we had to expand or die…The Old School teams will always have a special place in our thoughts and hearts…But we believe we have an opportunity to accomplish something special at The Mid…

Hang in there…and come along with us for the ride…

Stay thirsty my friends…
