Izaiah Brown ran for 164 yards and a touchdown to lead Alta Loma’s offense.

(Glendora) – Alta Loma’s defense held Glendora to one score and the offense did enough as the Lions had to grind out a 14-6 win over the Tartans Friday night at Citrus College.

Alta Loma scored just one offensive touchdown – a 46-yard touchdown jaunt by Izaiah Brown in the fourth quarter to increase the lead to 14-6.

The Lions defense was stout all night and gave Alta Loma the lead 7-0 as Semaj Stewart stepped in front of a Sebastian Lawrence pass and raced 36 yards to the end zone with 7:15 left in the first quarter.

The Lions picked off three of Lawrence’s passes. Owen Lyons had an interception in the third quarter and Nathaniel Alverado had a key pick in the fourth quarter as Glendora tried to mount a comeback.

Glendora punted four times in the first half after the pick six on the first possession. Alta Loma took the 7-0 lead into the half.

The Tartans got on the board in the third quarter when Lawrence hit Carson Kassotis over the middle for a 32-yard touchdown with 8:00 remaining. The extra point was missed leaving the score at 7-6.

Alta Loma’s offense kept shooting itself in the foot with penalties, but it finally broke through in the fourth quarter when Brown got loose down the sidelines for the 46-yard scoring sprint with 6:35 left.

The Lions defense held on the rest of the way to secure the victory.

Alta Loma and Glendora locked horns all night.

Brown finished with 164 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries for Alta Loma. Quarterback Maximus Fierro rushed for 35 yards and threw for 65. Devon White had four receptions for 36 yards.

For Glendora the offense had trouble gaining any momentum. Tyson Rush was Lawrence’s favorite target with eight catches for 75 yards. Lawrence threw for 146 yards and a touchdown but was hurt by the three interceptions.

Alta Loma head coach Tyler Perri was impressed with his running back Brown.

“Izaiah (Brown) always lets me knows he has my back. That’s the first thing he let me know when he came off the field,” Perri said. “He’s a three-year guy for us. We have a great relationship. That’s my guy right there.”

Alta Loma improved to 3-1 with the victory while Glendora fell to 2-2.
