(Temple City) – Temple City cruised to a 42-14 victory over visiting Blair at Arthur North Field Friday night. Joshua Simangunsong carried the load for the Rams rushing 12 times for 203-yards with four scores, his last going for 56-yards on his only play of the second half.

“He’s a heck of a player, he’s got really good intangible qualities that really great running backs have…he’s just a real good back,” head coach Mike McFarland said of TC’s workhorse.

Temple City scored its first points on a 37-yard run from Simangunsong thanks in part to the gaping hole the offensive line allowed him to run through. Simangunsong scored two more times in the first half on runs of five and a 49-yard beauty that saw him make two ridiculous cuts to find paydirt.

Quarterback Mikal Quintanilla connected with Tim Sanderson on an 18-yard fade for a touchdown with six seconds left in the first half and the route was on.

Blair’s two scores came late in the game off a couple of Rams turnovers with the reserves in.

With the victory Temple City now controls its own destiny heading to South Pasadena next week. With a win against the Tigers the Rams will lock up second place in the Rio Hondo League, something that didn’t seem feasible following a 1-4 start.

“I was very optimistic, I knew our guys had great character, and I knew we were going to get better. I’m not surprised that we’re in this position at all,” McFarland said.

Next week Temple City (4-5, 3-1) will travel to South Pasadena and Blair (2-7, 0-4) will close out its season in a home game with San Marino at Muir High School.
