Saints Rout Wilson; Set Sights on Playoffs

Theo Darlington's 12 yard touchdown run got the Saints started

(Hacienda Heights) – San Dimas racked up over 400 yards on the ground and Codee Watts threw a 57 yard touchdown pass as the Saints rolled to a 49-9 rout of Wilson Thursday night in the regular season finale.

With the win San Dimas secured third place in the Valle Vista League and with a 6-4 overall record the Saints will be a likely wild card team in the CIF Mid-Valley Division playoffs.

“We’ll probably get Arroyo or Schurr, something like that. We’re looking for ward to getting back on the field and defending our title,” said San Dimas Coach Bill Zernickow.

The Saints looked like a team ready to defend its title Thursday night. After Wilson drew first blood with a field goal mid way though the first quarter, San Dimas scored 42 consecutive points.

The Saints led 21-3 at halftime and scored again in the third before blowing it wide open in the fourth.

“It was important to bounce back tonight. That was tough loss last week,” Zernickow said about last week’s defeat to first place Covina. “But we showed perseverance and put it together tonight.”

Theo Darlington got the Saints on the board capping a seven play, 58 yard drive with a 12 yard dash up the middle late in the first.

In the second quarter after a punt pinned San Dimas back at its own five yard line, the Saints used 14 plays to go 95 yards for a 14-3 lead. Gabe Ojeda rushed in for the final 13 yards.

Later in the quarter Watts threw a strike to Kevin Kolbeck who got behind the Wilson secondary to pull it in for a 57 yard score.

The Wilson offense continued to struggle in the second half. On its first four possessions of the half, the Wildcats punted twice, threw an interception and fumbled. The Saints took advantage on every opportunity.

Damarquis Lawson scored on 13 yard run in the third quarter for a 28-3 advantage. Kolbeck then intercepted Wilson quarterback Josh Morales on the next series and the Saints took over at their own 25. Watts ran for 24 yards and 17 yards as San Dimas marched down to the Wilson 12. From there Dominic Jollevet scampered in for a 12 yard run to cap it.

Wilson coughed it up again on its next possession on its own 20. On the first play Jollevet struck again going right up the middle for a 20 yard touchdown.

Late in the game Wilson finally got into the end zone on a 37 yard pass from Morales to Michael Soto. But in the next series Jollevet scored his third touchdown of the night with 3:18 left on a 59 yard romp.

“He didn’t even play football last year. Yeah he’s going to be a good one,” Zernickow said of the junior running back.

The Saints had six different players carry the ball in a devastating ground attack. Jollevet had 130 yards and three touchdowns on just seven carries. Watts had 73, Darlington 66 yards and a score and Dillion Corona had nine carries for 48 yards. They totaled 403 yards rushing overall.

With the loss, Wilson fell to 4-6 overall and 1-5 in league.

“It’s a successful season because we won more games than last year. And the Valle Vista league is a tough league,” said Wilson Coach Brian Zavala. “Everyone talks about the Miramonte we were in last year, but the Valle Vista is strong too. We’re in the process of building a program here. I’ve seen a lot of changes from last year. We can turn the program around but we have to teach them how to win.”

CIF Mid-Valley Division playoff pairings will be announced Sunday.
