Joe Torosian

Good Evening

Fantasy football is a terrible waste of time…

…and since I’m in bitter grudge mode (the Rams losing in OT to the 49ers has a way of doing that to me)…can the NFL revise the pass interference penalty? In this day and age, with all this technology, in such a touchy-feely world, I cannot believe the league allows game’s to be decided subjectively by a lone individual.

Make the NFL pass interference penalty the same as college; fifteen yards and an automatic first down.

NFL One More Time: Michael Vick was sheer terror on Monday Night. Watching him I literally forgot to breathe for ten minutes.

Two of the best players locally finished their prep careers this past weekend. Arthur Brown led San Gabriel to an upset of Schurr at Ken Davis Stadium. The Matadors ended the season 5-5, but in fourth place in the Almont thanks to a pair of extremely tight losses to Montebello and Bell Gardens.

The other was El Monte’s Michael Jimenez, who burst on the scene with what may have been the greatest season ever for a Lions running back…The argument is a lock in Jimenez’s favor in the 21st. century, somebody want to make a case for a back in 2oth? Anybody at the End of the Santa Fe Trail want to take that one. Jimenez was awesome, he needs to be crunching pads somewhere next season.

…Add a third in Mt. View’s Jossymar Ulloa…I would say he came out of the blue, but probably coming out of the ‘purple’ would fit better.

One poster brought this up…If the Vikings hold on to their lead against El Monte then they finish 6-4 and most likely get the final CIF spot that went to Gladstone…or maybe they would have gone to Azusa.

Last Add Not Making the Playoffs: It could only happen to South Pasadena. The Tigers beat Temple City, last Wednesday night, at Ray Solari Stadium for the first time in 34 years. Cameras and reporters gather around South Pas HC Ed Smith like it was the Super Bowl…Its the Tigers moment…but less than an hour later they lose a coin flip and are left on the outside looking in at the playoffs.

Last Add South Pas: The Tigers finished the season 6-4 with no invitation to the big dance. In 2007 they finished 5-5, no-go. In 2006 they finished 6-4 and in 2004 they finished 6-3-1…still no playoff tickets. SP’s last playoff appearance was in 2003, they finished 6-4-1…

I guess the Clippers aren’t very good…I never would have dreamed it possible

Really Last Add South Pas: In that 2003 game they lost to Serra in the first round, 55-0. In 2001 the Tigers lost 39-0 to Paso Robles in the first round. In 1999 Paso Robles beat SP 27-0…South Pasadena’s last playoff victory was in the first round of 1997 when they beat Azusa 42-14 at Citrus College.

First Add Making the CIF Playoffs: Had a feeling Arroyo’s Jim Singiser wasn’t going to be pleased with his draw…San Dimas…

Actually an SD-Arroyo match up is good for the fans…but the Knights whipped both Rosemead and Temple City. So His Arroyo Baldness gets the defending Mid-Valley champions and the Rams and Panthers get each other in the first round.

Perplexed.

At the outer reaches…Burroughs HC Keith Knoop is making his seventh trip to the CIF playoffs and is still looking for his first win…While Bonita is seeking its first playoff victory  since winning the CIF title in 1999.

Arcadia as has had plenty of playoff success with Jon Dimalante, but this is the Apaches first post-season date since 2007. It will also be their first meeting ever with Norwalk.

Last Add San Gabriel: With coaching changes before the season, during the season, and player departures and injuries over the course of the season…Give credit to first year HC Jude Oliva for going 5-5 and only and eyelash away from CIF.

Maranatha should beat La Puente this week, but if I can put it in more professional terms; they are not safe money. The Minutemen are a young team, minus heart & soul Chris Cornell, and have had a long season of high emotion. I would view them as a candidate for a let down against the Warriors.

I know I’m violating Mid Valley Law #2 (Mid Valley Law #1 being never place the appetizer within arm’s reach of Big Tony)—which states “Never pick against Azusa”…But  this is no chump team they are facing against Village Christian.

Things could become very frustrating if the Crusaders’ ground game does its thing.

What can I say? They’re upset with me at Muir because I picked the Mustangs to be my dark horse team going forward.

“Why did you do that Joe?” One Muir loyalist confronted me.

“I picked you guys to go to the semis!”

“I know that’s the problem,” the loyalist said. “We wanted to stay below the radar.”

Last Add Muir: I’m proud of what we have accomplished this season covering football…but somehow I don’t think Mike Moschetti and La Mirada are hanging on my every word.

Robledo’s maybe, but not mine.

Stay thirsty my friends…
