Derrick "Bubba" Johnson led the way defensively with six tackles

(Monrovia) – Nick Bueno threw three touchdowns and ran for another to lead Monrovia to a 42-3 rout of Gladstone in the first round of the CIF Mid-Valley Division playoffs.

Bueno who usually does most of the damage with his legs completed 9 of 12 for 117 yards with his longest pass going for 28 yards.

Jay Henderson was Bueno’s favorite target with four catches for 43 yards while Luke Williams caught two for 27 yards.

Bueno racked up all of his stats in the first half as Monrovia jumped out to a 35-0 lead. Christian Blanco helped Bueno in the ground attack with six carries for 66 yards.

Defensively, Derrin Jenkins picked off a pass and Derrick “Bubba” Johnson had six tackles.

Next week Monrovia will host Schurr in the second round. The Spartans blitzed Baldwin Park 31-7.
