Now that the season has a couple of games under its belt, we can further see how the competition pans out. Some tournaments have just finished, while others are just underway.

Glendora on a Hot Streak

The Tartans (9-0) are on an undefeated streak after cruising through the Sierra Vista and the Fullerton Tournaments in the early season. The determined Glendora team has been not only winning, but making a statement and defeating their opponents by an average of 23 points per game. This hot streak includes a 60-point drubbing of Azusa, a 40-point victory over Bell Gardens, and two tournament titles to go along with their undefeated start. The Tartans only close game so far this season was a 56-53 win over Kennedy of La Palma. Glendora looks forward to its last tourney in the Century Tournament before entering league play in January.

Arroyo Tournament Champions

La Canada has also started the season off hot. The Spartans are going into today’s game against Arcadia with an unblemished 4-0 record. Dario CiVon has been the offensive go to guy for the Spartans, averaging 24.5 points per game. CiVon is also listed number 21 on the Southern Sections scoring leaders. In the paint, it has been forward Matt Faber who has been crashing the boards and defending the block, averaging 9 rebounds and one blocked shot per game. La Canada has also been crowned the Arroyo Tournament champions after defeating Keppel in the championship game. The Spartans also host their own tournament beginning today as they look to keep the streak rolling.

Mission Valley Roundup

Mountain View is now 5-1 after a 42-25 victory over host Gladstone on December 10. Erick Martinez, the leading scorer for the Vikings, had 16 points in the victory. Martinez also received help from Jeremy Acosta, who dropped in 17 points to go along with 5 rebounds and a steal. Acosta is averaging 8 rebounds a game for View. The Vikings play South Hills today in hope of advancing their record to 6-1.

Gabrielino is 4-1 coming off its first loss of the season – a 70-47 defeat to Temple City. Gabby will compete in the Alhambra High Invitational, which begins tomorrow at 3:30pm. Look for Ryan Lam to have an explosive outing as the leader of the Eagles with an average of 18 points per game. Temple City’s Jordan Hill is listed the 45th top scorer amongst Southern Section scoring leaders according to Max Preps. Hill is averaging 20.8 points per game for the 2-3 Rams.

Look Out! Here Comes Damien.

The Spartans of Damien are displaying no signs of rust to the beginning of this season, kicking off a 5-0 record to go undefeated in the Bronco-Ram Tip off Tournament. They have averaged over 60 points per game while doing so. Damien scored wins over Covina, Murrieta, San Jacinto, Brea Olinda, and Vista Murrieta, defeating their opponents by an average of 20 points per game. 6’ 7” forward Chris Reyes is leading the way averaging 15 points, 8 boards, 2 steals and an astounding 5 blocked shots per game. Damien takes on the challenge of the West Covina Tournament next up.
