Chino Hills Emerging

The way AJ Hecox dissected the Bonita defense, just like he did the whole Covina tournament, was very reminiscent of the agile, swift, and athletic Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls.

The kid even resembles him physically.

Hecox scored 15 points in the Covina Classic championship game on the way to a 53-42 victory over  the Bearcats, who were just coming off a 30-point semi-final romp over Bishop Amat. The only two setbacks that the Huskies have suffered this season have been against Colony ( 72-77) and Redlands East Valley, both in the Inland Empire Classic.

Besides that the Huskies have rolled to a 12-2 record and begun the season with a 7-0 start. The interesting part is when they face off with Damien, which is currently undefeated and ranked first on the Mid Valley Top 25. The Spartans and the Huskies clash twice in Sierra League play, the first game coming on January 14 and the latter being February 2.

Besides that dynamic match up waiting to happen, the Sierra league is looking to be very competitive with scrappy teams in the mix like Ayala (9-5), Claremont (9-8), South Hills (6-6), and Charter Oak (6-8).

Glendora Finally lost.

I want to extend my condolences and say sorry to those who expected the Glendora Tartans to exceed the University of Connecticut’s women’s basketball team 90 game winning streak.

But it was Valencia (10-6) who served as the C.I.F’s Stanford and gave coach Mike LeDuc and his Glendora squad their first loss of the season after winning 12 straight. The Tartans also lost their next game in the Century Tournament, making back to back losses after being defeated by San Clemente (10-4), but only by a one point margin.

The good news is both teams that Glendora lost to are 10-win teams thus far and standout Sophomore Nick Colletta is averaging 24.3 points for the Tartans.

The bad news is that Glendora is entering the Baseline League, which is packed with teams which you wouldn’t call pushovers. Glendora shares a league with teams such as Etiwanda (14-0), Upland (11-3), Los Osos (10-4), and Rancho Cucamonga (8-7).

Mission Valley Round Up

League play in the Mission Valley should get very interesting. The only reason being because one of Mountain View’s three losses was to league foe Gabrielino.

Gabby beat the Vikings 50-48 in the Bosco Tech Tournament December 4 and now they go head to head twice more, but with the stakes a lot higher.

Mountain View (10-3) is currently fairing a lot better then the other Mission Valley teams, including Gabrielino (7-6), but when league play begins and C.I.F contention is in the air the true colors of the team’s will surface.

The Eagles get the chance to prove that their victory was not a fluke when the play the Vikings on 1/12/11 and again 1/21/11.

NBA and NFL fans, imagine this:

Today is draft day and you are a fantasy coach. You need arrange an All-Star Football Team, but your selection pool only includes Active NBA Players. You can arrange the team any way you like based on any factors that persist. Who do you select for each position on an 11-man offensive roster?

My All-Star Fantasy team so far looks like this:

QB– Steve Nash           RB– Lebron James             C– Zach Randolph

(Passing Ability)     (Hit’s the hole like a train)      ( This is more like Zach’s sport)

FB– Ron Artest LG– Dwight Howard           RG-Glen Davis

(Body Bruiser)         (Great blocking ability)          (Big Body in the trenches)

TE– Blake Griffin       WR– Kobe Bryant       RT– Lamar Odom

(Going Up!)              (Runs well without ball)       (Fast feet for good blocking)

WR– J.R Smith             LT– Shaquille O’Neal

(Slot Receiver)          (Shaq has been waiting for this)

Feel free to construct your own All-Star Roster and chime in at Midvalleysports.com
