High School Girls Basketball Top 25: January 9

First week of league games are all under the belt.

Early on it looks as though Duarte got the better of Sierra Vista. That win jumps the Falcons into the Top 10.

Diamond Ranch found some solid footing in the Hacienda going 2-0 early after struggling in tournament play.

La Salle continues to struggle losing five of six and limps into the Camino Real schedule.

At the bottom are those who were given consideration for the Top 25 and also “games of the week”.

1. Bonita (13-1) – Bearcats start the Hacienda League with blow out over Diamond Bar.

2. Bishop Amat (13-3) – Now begins the toughest part of the schedule for Amat.

3. Muir (7-4) – Narrowly got by Burbank to avoid the upset.

4. Poly (13-1) – Is there a more dominant player to watch than Michelle Miller?

5. Keppel (14-1) – Who will be the ones to defeat Aztecs in Almont?

6. Burroughs (12-3) – Indians looking to show Muir they are for real.

7. Diamond Ranch (7-8) –  Have won 19 straight league games.

8. L.A. Baptist (12-4) – Will need to find a way to stop Kari Korver on Friday.

9. Duarte (11-1) – Falcons show Sierra Vista who is best in Montview.

10. Walnut (11-5) – Even in new league have upper hand on West Covina.

11. Baldwin Park (12-2) – Braves averaging 65 points per game in Valle Vista.

12. Sierra Vista (8-3) – Must regroup after being beaten by Duarte.

13. Pasadena (10-5) – Bulldogs were unable to get by Burroughs.

14. El Rancho (10-5) – Looking for a little separation in Del Rio.

15. St. Lucy’s  (9-5) – Regents will now face the tough Sierra League.

16. Wilson (9-6) – Must be happy that Diamond Ranch is nowhere on the league schedule.

17. Arcadia (8-4) – Apaches might have been looking ahead to Pasadena in loss to Glendale.

18. Whittier (11-6) – Jeane Magana leads the Cardinals with 15 points per game.

19. Burbank (9-6) – Nearly upset Muir in opening league game.

20. La Mirada (8-7) – Matadores need to get into rhythm to win Suburban league.

21. South Pasadena (9-5) – Down year for Rio Hondo might give Tigers shot at title.

22. Valley Christian (8-7) – Three-game winning streak coming at the right time.

23. Glendale (9-5) – Nitros are saying “Dyno-mite!”

24. La Salle (10-6) – Nightmare continues after promising start for Lancers.

25. West Covina (9-6) – Drop opener of Hacienda League to old nemesis Walnut.

January 12th – El Rancho @ Whittier 4:30pm, Arcadia @ Burroughs 5pm

January 14th – Walnut @ Bonita 5pm

January 15th – Bonita vs Bishop Amat @ Azusa Pacific
