Bulldogs Hold off Apaches

(Arcadia) – Arcadia (8-7, 2-1) refusing to yield comfortable breathing room to Pasadena throughout the game Monday night, turned up the heat with 59.4 seconds to play as Kiran Koneru (14 points) found himself open deep on the right wing floor and hit the bomb to make it a 6 point, 57-51 PHS ballgame.

But in a matter of 12 seconds, Haig Nazerian emerged from a cloud of Apaches and Bulldogs underneath at the other end with the decisive basket for the Bulldogs. After Arcadia turned it over and was wide on a three-ball, the Bulldogs’ John John Haywood added a free throw in the closing stages where the buzzer sounded to the tune of a 60-51 Pasadena victory. Both teams had come into today’s game 2-0 in Pacific play.

Todd Lewis scored 13 of PHS’ 30 second half points on his way to a game high 19. Austin Daniels scored 10 and collected 4 steals while Sckoopy Adams was a free throw short of posting a double-double with 9 points-10 caroms. Blake Hamilton hit consecutive threes off assists from Adams and Lewis in the opening stanza while hitting another in the third to cap 9 points to go along with four rebounds, an assist, and a block.

Daniels, Nazerian, Carl Robinson, and Nick Holden each came away with steals in the fourth to repel Apache threats. Pasadena outrebounded Arcadia 43-23, led by Adams’ 11 and Holden’s 7.

However, the final field goal tally was far from spectacular for the Bulldogs, who shot 33.3% (20-60) against Arcadia’s 43.8% (21-48) and allowed 30 second-half points after having given up 24 total in their previous two games combined.

Arcadia’s Robby Haines (17 points, 8 rebounds) for all intents and purposes owned the third quarter as the Apache middle man scored 11 of his team high 17 points that period, adding a smooth touch of perimeter as well with a trey amidst the surge. Jeff Radzwill logged consecutive steals (2) late in the fourth as the Apaches stayed in striking position.
