Joe Torosian

Good Morning! (Arguments)

Honestly, I just never thought Cam Newton would leave Auburn…Which reminds me he still has my lap top…

***

Things were a whole lot easier when one person was making the picks for the “All This & That Teams”…Not that they were always right, but at least they were easier to defend. I can say there is much discussion, much yelling, but very little compromise when it comes to our selections…

The nice thing about it is when “His Arroyo Baldness” comes after me for omitting one of his players…I have an entire staff to blame it on.

***

“No love for the La Serna Backs”

Sure doesn’t seem that way. Richard Alvarez and O.J. Medina fell in the late rounds…it was a hard debate…the only other option was to create a 2nd Team…To heck with that noise…

Not happy about it…but this is what happens.

***

No Second Teams

If we could get back into a time machine and change this rule, we might…it becomes harder and harder each year…but it’s a result of all the horrible first, second, third, honorable mention, trading, and sliding (slide an all league quarterback to MVP, and move another—lesser—quarterback into first team all league) done in other selection processes.

After I’m fired it might change.

***

Make No Mistake

…We have seen everyone of these players during the season and in many cases we’ve gone with what we’ve seen as opposed to just relying on the posted stats. In the Southeast Division, I saw 22 of the 28 teams live…

***

If you’ve seen Peterson throw a football and thought it was the worst of all nightmares then you obviously didn’t USC play basketbll at Oregon last night.

***

THE MID: I want to talk about next year’s team.

Rosemead HC Matt Koffler: I am still the head football coach at Rosemead High School! I’m relaxing enjoying time off away from ball and spending a lot of time with family and kids!

THE MID: So I can safely say you are not a candidate for the Maranatha job?

KOFFLER: Safely!

THE MID: When you go Division I what about taking me to be your Sports Information Director?

KOFFLER: Great Idea, let me know what opens up brother and it will be a package deal. Koffler and Joe to USC how does that sound?

***

No getting around it, it’s a crime there was no room from Andrew Buenrostro (La Serna) and George Johnson (West Covina) on the All Southeast team…

***

Go back to August and who would have thought Rowland’s Michael Ball wouldn’t have been All Southeast?

***

Looking to 2011: San Gabriel has dropped Burbank and added a home game with San Dimas… The Mats are also replacing Contreras on the schedule…

***

We are proud our offensive line selections are position specific.

***

Last Add San Gabriel: HC Jude Oliva has told returning quarterbacks Eric Alvarez and Andy Guerrero that they will have to compete again for the starting job.

***

Last Add “The Suave One”: SG Assistant Matt Lopez wants us to keep an eye on wide receiver Alex Villalobos. The senior-to-be caught 41 passes for 802 yards and eight touchdowns in 2010. “He was the number one vote getter for wide receiver at our all-league meeting.”

***

Staff Under the Bus

I did vote for Brandt Davis at kicker…

***

Because we didn’t make our selections at Lamp Post Pizza, but in the office, the debate this year was much more contentious and louder. I’d like to say the idea for West Covina’s Maurice Dupleasis was mine, but it wasn’t. It came from the staff and was immediately approved.

Dupleasis is special…whether he plays another down of football or not…he’s Bad Dude Deluxe.

I will defend that decision to the last.

***

“The Patrick Perrigue Award”

This goes to the all purpose player of the year…and is named after former La Canada utility man Patrick Perrigue…

***

The Omelette became an Eagle Scout last night…Congrats…

***

Joel Murphy’s sudden departure from the Maranatha coaching scene blew a lot of us away. As was the case with the previous five coaching changes in The Mid a whole lot of staffers were suddenly put in limbo.

This includes the Minutemen staff: Henry Rodriguez, Tim Cantrell, David Alonzo, Adam Crouch, Joey Rodriguez, Chris Weber, Adrian Jennings, Drake Buchanon, and Colin Jones.

The only true free agents in high school football are the assistants.

Stay thirsty my friends…
